Son Heung-min (34) helped LAFC make a first in the club's history.
LAFC defeated FC Dallas 1-0 on the 8th (Korea time) at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles in the 2026 MLS regular season round 3. It is their seventh straight home win against Dallas.
With this victory, LAFC ran their league winning streak to three since the season opener, earning 9 points and running alongside San Diego·San Jose·Vancouver in a tie for first place. Notably, they have not conceded a goal in three matches.
A new chapter in the club's history was born. LAFC said on its official website that this is the first time in club history to open an MLS season with three straight league wins and five straight wins in all competitions. It was helped by two wins in the first and second legs of the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup round 1 against Real España (Honduras).
Son Heung-min also shared in the team's history by starting five consecutive matches this season. He was booked for simulation. Son ran toward the goalkeeper rushing out into open space in the 10th minute of the first half and fell. There was no significant contact with a defender, and Son did not claim a foul. The referee judged that he intentionally dived and issued a yellow card.
Son Heung-min's fourth league assist was unfortunately nullified. He drew attention in the 23rd minute of the first half by getting behind the defensive line and fed a pass into the feet of the advancing Dany Boanga. It looked like another combined goal from the "Heung-bo duo," but Boanga's shot was caught by the goalkeeper's fingertips.
Son Heung-min, who was looking for his first league goal of the season, swallowed his disappointment. In a crucial counterattack chance in the 44th minute of the first half, Timothy Tillman played the ball to Son Heung-min cutting in on the left. Son used stepovers with both feet to unbalance the defense and fired a left-footed shot from an angle, but the goalkeeper touched it with his toes. The first half ended 0-0.
LAFC broke the deadlock after surviving the danger. In the 10th minute of the second half, David Martinez opened the scoring with a brilliant left-footed long-range shot that split the net. That goal decided the match. LAFC finished the game with a clean sheet thanks to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris's saves and took 3 points.
LAFC said on its website that "we maintained a perfect start to the 2026 MLS season with a 1-0 home win over Dallas at BMO Stadium on Saturday night," adding that "LAFC is one of four MLS clubs to start the season with 9 points from the first three matches and one of the clubs to start the season with three straight clean sheets."
However, Son Heung-min postponed his first league goal. He played the full 90 minutes tracking Dallas's defenders but did not record an attacking point.
This season Son Heung-min has three assists in three MLS matches. He assisted the opener with an accurate pass to Martinez in the season opener against Inter Miami, who faced Lionel Messi, and he had two assists against Houston, including one "secondary assist."
In cup competitions he has 1 goal and 3 assists in 2 matches. Son Heung-min swept up four attacking points, including a penalty kick goal, in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Real España last month. His official tally is 1 goal and 6 assists in total. He is waiting for his first field goal of the season and his first league goal.
