China's Winter Olympics team did not win a single gold medal in the short track events.
In the early hours of the 21st (Korea time), the men's 5,000m relay final and the women's 1,500m event took place. The women's 1,500m started from the heats.
In the men's 5,000m relay, the Netherlands won gold, Korea took silver and Italy bronze. Canada finished fourth, China fifth, Belgium sixth, Japan seventh, and Hungary eighth.
China has no gold medals in short track at this tournament. In the men's relay they relied on naturalized Lin Xiaojun (Korean name Im Hyo-jun), but there was no result.
Hungary was the same. They had another naturalized athlete, Moon Won-jun, but he did not produce results.
China has won four gold medals at this tournament, more than Korea. Its ranking is one spot above Korea, which rose to 13th. But in short track, Korea restored its pride.
In the women's 1,500m, Kim Gil-li (Seongnam city hall) won gold, Choi Min-jeong (Seongnam city hall) took silver, and U.S. skater Currin Stoddart earned bronze. China's Yang Jinglu finished fourth.
One of the athletes who drew attention at this tournament was Lin Xiaojun. While wearing the Taegeuk mark, he won the men's 1,500m gold and 500m bronze at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. But in 2019 at the Jincheon training center he was involved in an unpleasant incident with Hwang Dae-heon (Gangwon provincial office) and was taken to trial. He also received a one-year suspension from the Korea Skating Union. Faced with a crisis in his athletic career, he chose to naturalize to China in 2020.
Because the International Olympic Committee charter says 'an athlete who changes nationality to compete in the Olympics must wait three years after representing their former country in an international competition,' Lin Xiaojun skipped the Beijing Olympics and returned to the Olympic stage at this tournament after eight years. However, Lin Xiaojun failed to win even a single medal, let alone gold. He failed to reach the semifinals in the men's 1,000m, 1,500m and 500m. China also failed to perform in the relay and did not win a medal.
