FC Barcelona continued its run atop La Liga with a commanding home victory.
FC Barcelona beat RCD Mallorca 3-0 on the 8th (Korea time) at Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain, in the 23rd round of La Liga. With this win, Barcelona extended its lead over second-place Real Madrid to four points and solidified its sole possession of first place.
In the early stages of the match there was resistance from Mallorca. In the first half, Jan Vertonghen showed active movement on the flank and repeatedly unsettled Jules Koundé. However, no decisive finish came, and the momentum gradually shifted toward Barcelona.
The opening goal came in the middle of the first half. In the 29th minute of the first half, Marcus Rashford's right-footed shot was blocked by a defender, deflected off Dani Olmo and redirected. Robert Lewandowski did not miss the rebound in the box and slotted it in. It was a moment that highlighted Lewandowski's composure.
Mallorca rapidly lost strength after the break. Barcelona increased possession and dominated the match, and in the middle of the second half they put the game out of reach. Lamine Yamal created space outside the penalty area around the 15th minute of the second half, and a powerful shot from about 25 meters struck the right corner of the goal. It was his third goal in six recent matches against Mallorca.
The momentum did not stop. Barcelona used a quick counterattack to score the third goal. Another 18-year-old prospect, Marc Bernal, drove into the penalty area and finished calmly. His shot, which slightly deflected off a defender, went straight into the goal. It was Bernal's first senior goal for Barcelona.
Under coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona has now won all 11 La Liga home matches this season. They have kept six clean sheets at home. Solid defending and explosive attacking are working together.
With this victory, Barcelona put renewed pressure on the title race. Second-place Real Madrid faces Valencia next. Barcelona will travel to Girona in their next league fixture and, before that, will play the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal against Atlético Madrid.
Meanwhile, Mallorca, hovering just above the relegation zone, will welcome Real Betis at home in their next match. A difficult schedule follows.
