- Speed skating national team candidates and youth representatives, and promising young athletes shed heavy sweat toward the future during winter joint training
Currently, national team candidates for speed skating (hereafter 'speed'), along with youth representatives and promising young athletes, are focusing on winter joint training.
The speed team was selected based on results from the 2025/26 ISU international competitions and domestic selection events, and began about two weeks of intensive strengthening training from January through February to raise their performance.
In the speed discipline, athletes who achieved excellent results in the 2025/26 ISU Junior World Cup series and the World Junior Championships, and the promising youth speed skating competitions were selected, and a total of 87 athletes are participating in the training.
The national team candidates and promising youth team will train at Taereung Training Center and Taereung International Skating Rink for about two weeks from Jan. 25 to Feb. 7, and the youth representatives will train from Jan. 27 to Feb. 7.
This winter joint training is a good opportunity for promising prospects with potential to gather in one place to develop their skills and improve performance through mutual stimulation.
The 2026 national team candidate and youth representative winter joint training and the 2025 promising youth team winter joint training are hosted by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), organized by the Korea Skating Union, and operated with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO).
