Billiards declares e-sports as a competitor, reborn as K-billiard.
The Korea Billiards Federation held a vision proclamation ceremony for "K-Billiards 2030" at the "Billiards Festival (Billiards Festival) 2025" held at Daejeon Dream Arena in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on the 28th, and officially announced the medium- and long-term development strategy and future direction of Korean billiards.
Through the vision proclamation, the federation presented "K-Billiards for All Generations!" as its vision. Based on the core values that "billiards is exercise, and billiards is a fun sport," it announced a direction to grow billiards into a popular sport that all generations can enjoy together and a discipline with future competitiveness.
The tasks to realize the vision were presented in three main directions: changes in the sport system covering schools, women and young generations; growth of sportainment through the introduction of faster, more dynamic matches and data visualization; and completion of a division system where anyone can become a professional and strengthening K-Billiards' global competitiveness in preparation for the 2030 Doha Asian Games.
Through the "School·Gender·Young" strategy, the federation plans to promote a transition to a sport ecosystem in which children and adolescents, women and young generations are naturally attracted, and make this the foundation for billiards' future growth.
The strategy is to establish billiards as a everyday sport through the spread of youth billiards linked to school physical education using pocket billiards, creation of a women-friendly environment, and expansion of sports spaces that Millennials and Gen Z can enjoy. It also plans to shed the existing senior-centered image and position billiards as a sport enjoyed by younger generations.
At the event, Seosu-gil, president of the Billiards Federation, emphasized, "Our competitor is e-sports," and said, "We must create new growth engines centered on the younger generation."
The federation will expand billiards into a "sport people want to watch" based on the "Dynamic·Festival·Visual" strategy. It plans to increase the dynamism of match formats and develop tournaments into content that citizens can enjoy together, while enhancing the viewing experience through arena production and data visualization to transform billiards into a trendy festival-style sport.
Based on this system, it plans to strengthen the international competitiveness of the "K-billiards" model and pursue a global expansion strategy, developing it into a structure that can be applied on the global stage.
To this end, under the tasks of "Division·Standard·Global," it set the completion of the division league system as a core task. Through a division structure from D5 to D1, it plans to clarify player development paths and establish new standards for Korean billiards based on operational criteria and administrative standardization.
The Korea Billiards Federation said, "Based on the K-Billiards 2030 medium- and long-term development plan, we will build a self-reliant foundation for the 'K-billiards' model, strengthen brand competitiveness, and gradually pursue expansion onto the international stage."
