The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation is recruiting participants for the '2025 Taekwondo Volunteer Group (hereinafter referred to as the Taekwondo Volunteer Group)' until the 30th, contributing to the spread of Taekwondo overseas and the enhancement of South Korea's national dignity. Selected members will go abroad to promote Korean culture and the values of Taekwondo.
Eligibility to apply for the Taekwondo Volunteer Group is limited to individuals holding South Korean nationality who are Taekwondo black belts of 3rd dan or higher, aged between 19 and 34. The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation plans to select about 10 Taekwondo volunteers to be dispatched overseas for about a month in July and August, providing round-trip airfare, living expenses in the destination country, overseas insurance, and training fees.
The countries scheduled for dispatch this year are five countries across four continents: Georgia in Europe, Ecuador in South America, Tonga and Vanuatu in Oceania, and Zimbabwe in Africa. Those who wish to join the Taekwondo Volunteer Group, including Taekwondo majors, can apply after checking the announcements on the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation and the Taekwondo Center websites.
The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation will select the final members after reviewing applications, conducting interviews and practical evaluations, and group training. Selected members will receive training to strengthen their teaching capabilities, including Taekwondo teaching methods and lesson plan development, as well as basic education on international development cooperation, languages of the target countries, and conflict resolution.
Gu Ji-hyun, who participated as a member of the Taekwondo Volunteer Group in Latvia in 2024, shared, "The Taekwondo training and experience hours that I guided became a dream for someone and were a great opportunity to introduce Korea in a friendlier and deeper way," while actively recommending the Taekwondo Volunteer Group activities.
Director Kim Joong-heon of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation noted, "The Taekwondo Volunteer Group overseas dispatch program is an important initiative contributing to the training of prospective international Taekwondo instructors and the dissemination of Taekwondo," adding, "We will do our best in the selection and education processes, and in cooperation with the embassies of the destination countries so that the volunteers can widely promote South Korea and the prestige of Taekwondo."
In related news, last year, 19 members of the Taekwondo Volunteer Group were dispatched to seven countries including Namibia, Brazil, El Salvador, Latvia, Albania, Mongolia, and Australia, contributing to raising South Korea's status in the international sports community and development cooperation by teaching Taekwondo to police, military personnel, national representatives, and instructors.
