Ahead of the 2024-2025 season professional basketball playoffs, witty remarks from players caught attention at the media day.
The Korean Basketball League (KBL) held the 2024-2025 season KCC professional basketball playoff media day on 10th at the KBL Center in Gangnam, Seoul. Coaches and players from the six playoff teams attended and shared their determination.
This season's six playoffs will have fourth-place Suwon KT facing fifth-place Daegu Korea Gas Corporation, while third-place Ulsan Hyundai Mobis will clash with sixth-place Anyang Jeonggwanjang. The winning teams will then face first-place Seoul SK and second-place Changwon LG in the semifinals.
The standout figure at the media day was Ulsan Hyundai Mobis's Lee Woo-seok. He led the event with his unique wit, saying, "Our declaration is 'taking red ginseng (Anyang Jeonggwanjang) to hunt sparrows (Changwon LG).' We prepare the tonic and head to hunt sparrows," making the audience burst into laughter.
In response, Changwon LG's Yoo Gi-sang said, "Our team's symbol is a golden eagle, so being expressed as a sparrow is a bit scratchy," expressing his discomfort cleverly. He continued, "Our declaration is 'don’t worry about winning.' We faced setbacks in the semifinals last season, but this time, we will definitely reach the top."
Anyang Jeonggwanjang's Park Ji-hoon mentioned the team's foreign players, Deontae Burton and Johnny O'Brien, saying, "Our declaration is 'the victory button—are you ready?' Thanks to those two players, we can look higher."
Seoul SK's head coach Jeon Hee-chul set the goal for a unified championship after three years since the 2021-2022 season, saying, "This time, it’s not 'the last dance,' but 'another dance.'"
Suwon KT's Moon Jung-hyun brought up 'KT Magic,' while Daegu Korea Gas Corporation's Sam Joseph Belanger mentioned 'One Team Pegasus,' each expressing their determination for playoff victories.
The playoffs will officially begin on the 12th.
The championship series is scheduled to be held from the 5th to the 17th of next month in a best-of-seven format.
