Erling Haaland (24, Manchester City) is at risk of being sidelined for the season due to an injury to his left ankle.

Manchester City announced on their official website on 1st (Korea time) that "Haaland injured his left ankle in the quarterfinal match of the 2024-2025 FA Cup against Bournemouth. He received initial examinations in Manchester and will confirm his exact condition through a specialist’s diagnosis."

Haaland fell during the quarterfinal match against Bournemouth, held at Vitality Stadium in the UK on 31st, after a clash with Lewis Cook in the 12th minute of the second half, twisting his left ankle. Due to severe pain, he was eventually substituted.

After the match, Haaland left the stadium using crutches while wearing a cast.

Manchester City noted, "Additional examinations regarding the injury are ongoing," and expressed hope that Haaland will return in time for the FIFA Club World Cup scheduled for July.

However, local media predict a long absence for Haaland, with suggestions that he may be sidelined for the season.

Haaland's absence is a significant loss for Manchester City. He has scored 21 goals in the Premier League this season, ranking second in scoring behind Mohamed Salah (27 goals, Liverpool). Including 8 goals in the Champions League and 1 goal in the FA Cup, he has recorded a total of 30 goals in 40 matches. He is the 'key' player for Manchester City's attack.

Currently, Manchester City is in 5th place in the Premier League with 48 points. They are competing with Chelsea (49 points) for the 4th place, which grants entry to the UEFA Champions League. In this situation, Haaland's absence could be painful for the club.

Manchester City has already been eliminated from the Champions League and the Carabao Cup. The FA Cup is practically the only remaining tournament with the possibility of winning.

If Haaland's recovery is delayed, Manchester City will not be able to field 100% of their strength in the FA Cup semifinals against Nottingham Forest scheduled for the end of April.
