Hyundai GLOVIS noted on the 30th that its affiliated rugby team won the '39th Chungmu-gi National Rugby Championship.'

In the final match of the third phase held at the JINDO Public Sports Center in South Jeolla Province, the Hyundai GLOVIS Rugby Team defeated the OK Eutman Rugby Team 38-22 to claim the overall first place in the tournament.

Hyundai GLOVIS, which successfully defended against the OK Eutman Rugby Team's offensive in the early stages of the game, took the lead by converting an attack connected by player Hwang Jeong-wook from a lineout in the 21st minute of the first half, achieving a comeback to lead 5-3. Hyundai GLOVIS finished the first half with a score of 14-3 and continued to dominate the game in the second half, ultimately winning 38-22.

The Hyundai GLOVIS Rugby Team opened the 2025 domestic tournament season with a victory in the first competition, marking a great start to the year. In the first phase, they defeated POSCO E&C with a thrilling one-point comeback victory of 29-28, and in the second phase, they overcame the traditional powerhouse Korea Electric Power Corporation 35-29.

The victory in the tournament was highlighted by a one-team play based on the harmony of both new and old members. This year, the Hyundai GLOVIS Rugby Team welcomed players Lee Joon, born in 2002, and Kim Hyun-jin. Additionally, the experienced game coordination from national team players Jung Yeon-sik and Lee Jin-kyu, along with the breakthrough abilities of foreign players from Fiji, Ratu Timothy and William Soko, further strengthened the squad.

Kim Yong-hwa, the coach of the Hyundai GLOVIS Rugby Team, who received the Best Coach award at the tournament, said, “First, I’d like to extend my condolences to those who have suffered hardships due to the large fire. I sincerely hope that daily life is restored as soon as possible,” and added, “Thank you to the fans who always show interest and support. The Hyundai GLOVIS Rugby Team will strive to broaden the base of domestic rugby.”

The Chungmu-gi National Rugby Championship is a prestigious tournament in South Korea. It has continued for 38 years since its first holding in 1981, and after the last tournament in 2018, it was revived this year after a seven-year hiatus.

A total of 28 teams participated in various categories, including under 15, under 18, university, and general divisions, where 4 teams (△Hyundai GLOVIS △OK Eutman Rugby Team △POSCO E&C △Korea Electric Power Corporation) competed in the general division (15-person format) to determine the strongest team through a round-robin tournament.
