Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham) promised better performance ahead of the last two matches of the 2026 North and Central America World Cup Asian qualifying final round.

The captain of the South Korean national football team, Son Heung-min, conveyed his gratitude and determination to fans through his social media account after finishing the March A-match schedule on the 30th.

Son Heung-min said, "I was happy and thrilled to play in front of South Korean football fans after a long time, and though it was a bit chilly in March, thanks to the support of the fans, my heart felt warm."

The national team, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, recorded consecutive draws in the 7th and 8th matches of the third qualifying round against Oman and Jordan. Both matches, held on the 20th against Oman and on the 25th against Jordan, ended in 1-1. It was a disappointing result at home.

South Korea drew criticism from fans after conceding equalizers despite scoring first in both matches.

Son Heung-min played the full match against Oman. He was substituted shortly before the end of the second half after recording one assist against Jordan.

Son Heung-min noted, "Although I may have disappointed football fans with my condition and the results, I believe it will get better and I will run forward with my teammates. I sincerely thank you, and we will meet again in June for the A-match in better form. Thank you and I love you," as he concluded his message.

South Korea currently maintains the top position in the group with 16 points, followed by Jordan (13 points) and Iraq (12 points).

The national team will play the 9th match against Iraq in Basra, Iraq, on June 5. They will then host the last 10th match against Kuwait on June 10. Even a draw against Iraq will secure second place in the group, ensuring their qualification for the World Cup finals for the 11th consecutive time.
