The Kiwoom Heroes secured a feel-good winning series. They achieved a come-from-behind victory against the Kia Tigers, winning 5-3 in a game held at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on the 27th.
They appeared to be on the verge of defeat after Na Sung-bum hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. However, in the top of the ninth, with one out and runners on first and second against Kia closer Jeong Hae-young, Choi Joo-hwan delivered a two-run double and went on to win.
The mound also shined. The previous day, they won 17-10 with high school rookie Jeong Hyun-woo on the mound. On this day, they also started high school rookie Yoon Hyun, securing another win. Yoon pitched five innings, allowing three hits, six walks, and striking out two while giving up one run. Though the batting lineup didn’t produce enough runs for a victory, he deserved applause.
Won Jong-hyun gave up a two-run home run, but Joo Seung-woo pitched a scoreless inning to secure the win. Park Yun-sung allowed one hit while recording three outs for his first save.
Manager Hong Won-ki praised, "Starter Yoon showed impressive performance with aggressive pitching, unlike a rookie. The diving catch by Lee Joo-hyung in the third and the home assist by Lee Hyung-jong in the fourth made Yoon’s job much easier with solid defensive plays from veteran players."
He also noted, "Lee Kang-jun, Joo Seung-woo, and Park Yun-sung, who pitched in the middle innings, each performed their roles well. Congratulations to Park Yun-sung on his first career save," sending applause.
He particularly highlighted the concentration in the ninth. "The opportunity created by walks from Kadiñas and Song Seong-moon in the ninth inning was well capitalized by Choi Joo-hwan with a two-run timely hit. Song Seong-moon's aggressive baserunning during the scoring process also stood out," he assessed highly.
Finally, he promised, "We were able to win today thanks to the passionate support from the fans. I appreciate it, and we will show good performance in the 홈 opening series starting tomorrow."
