The Korea Anti-Doping Agency successfully held its first March seminar of the monthly KADA anti-doping sessions on the 18th floor of the Seoul Olympic Parktel's 'Fair Play Ground (FPG)' on the 27th.

Following the lecture, a panel discussion took place with Professor Kim Young-sik and Hong Yoo-jin, a KADA scientific research department officer, engaging in an active question-and-answer session with attendees.

One attendee noted, 'It was a beneficial time to gain accurate information and understanding about Oriental medicine and prohibited substances,' adding, 'I guide athletes on site, and I believe that I can provide accurate answers to the questions athletes usually ask regarding herbal medicine after this seminar.'

Meanwhile, KADA published the 'Herbal Medicine Anti-Doping Guidelines,' containing the content introduced in this seminar, and posted and distributed it on the KADA website. In addition, animation educational materials were also posted on the official YouTube channel to make the related content easier to understand. The guidelines include ▲ differentiation between herbal medicine and food, △ precautions when prescribing herbal medicine, and ▲ analysis results regarding the inclusion of prohibited substances in 32 frequently used herbal medicines.

Kim Myung-soo, head of the business department, stated, 'KADA conducted research on herbal medicines for anti-doping last year and carried out an analysis of frequently used herbal medicines in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology's Doping Control Center, a WADA accredited analytical laboratory, based on an understanding of the actual conditions regarding the use of herbal medicines.' He added, 'I hope the distributed guidelines and the content of this seminar will be helpful to athletes and coaches for the safe use of herbal medicine against doping.'
