Yoo Seung-min, the president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, mentioned the endorsement of Jeong Mong-kyu, the president of the Korea Football Association (KFA).
Newsis reported that Yoo Seung-min stated at the first board meeting of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held on the 27th at the Grand Hyatt Seoul in Yongsan, Seoul, that "I believe a conclusion regarding the approval of the KFA president's inauguration will soon be reached. Legal review and the Korea Football Association's own efforts have been requested, and all relevant materials have been gathered."
Jeong Mong-kyu, the KFA president, received overwhelming support with 156 votes out of 183 in the election for the 55th president of the Korea Football Association held on the 26th of last month, surpassing his competitors Heo Jung-moo (15 votes) and Shin Mun-seon (11 votes). This amounted to an overwhelming approval rate of 85.25%.
However, the endorsement by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee has not yet been granted. The endorsement of the KFA president, an organization under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, requires a review by the Sports Promotion Department of the committee and Yoo's approval. Yoo stated during the full meeting of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee on the 5th that "the (endorsement of the president) must be done in accordance with regulations and principles."
In the end, he said that there would be an endorsement if there are no disqualifications. Given that Jeong Mong-kyu has received overwhelming support from the football community and is free from various legal risks, predictions suggest that there will be no issues regarding the endorsement. Jeong Mong-kyu has already been actively moving since his election.
Jeong Mong-kyu began his official activities by visiting the construction site of the Korea Football Comprehensive Center located in Cheonan on the 2nd. He reportedly visited the site with Park Sang-don, the mayor of Cheonan, to check the progress and understand the current situation. He also directly attended both A-match games in March.
According to Newsis, Yoo Seung-min, the president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, stated, "If (President Jeong Mong-kyu) is endorsed, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee will work diligently to ensure it becomes a future-oriented and healthy structure that the Korea Football Association and the public can accept through thorough monitoring."
Regarding the endorsement of President Jeong Mong-kyu, Yoo Seung-min, the president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, promised that "once the endorsement is granted, I will discuss with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to ensure that matters are resolved amicably," indicating his commitment to address the conflict that significantly arose between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the KFA last year.
