Liverpool is reported to be proposing four players as part of the deal to acquire a striker for £150 million (approximately 283.8 billion won).
The British outlet TeamTalk reported on the 27th (KST) that Liverpool may offer four players in an attempt to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak (26) this summer.
Liverpool is on the brink of winning the league title this season. They have a 12-point lead over Arsenal in second place (58 points) after claiming 70 points (21 wins, 7 draws, 1 loss) in 29 matches. Unless there is a major upset, it is expected that Liverpool will be crowned league champions this season.
However, Liverpool's attacking lineup for next season is expected to face serious concerns. With Darwin Núñez likely to leave and Mohamed Salah's contract situation uncertain, Liverpool has begun early efforts to acquire a striker.
One of the strikers Liverpool desires is Isak. The 193 cm tall striker has recorded 19 goals and 5 assists in 25 league matches this season. Despite suffering from a toe fracture, he is nearing his record from last season (21 goals and 2 assists in 30 league matches).
However, it seems that Newcastle will not easily part with Isak. Newcastle has him contracted until the summer of 2028. They currently sit 6th in the league (47 points) and are threatening Chelsea (49 points) for the Champions League spot.
Newcastle has set Isak's price at £150 million. This makes it the third-highest transfer fee in history, coming after the amounts paid by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Neymar's transfer from Barcelona and Kylian Mbappé from AS Monaco.
To alleviate this financial burden, Liverpool has suggested including four players in a swap deal. They are center-back Joe Gomez (28), Jarell Quansah (22), utility player Harvey Elliott (22), and Ben Doak (20), who is on loan at Middlesbrough.
Liverpool also wanted to include Núñez in this proposal. However, it was reported that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is not interested in acquiring Núñez, leading to his exclusion.
Unlike Newcastle, Isak appears to be interested in a transfer. He reportedly rejected a recent contract extension offer from Newcastle and has shown exceptional performance against Liverpool, having scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist in a total of 6 matches against them.
Arne Slot, Liverpool's manager, said of Isak, "We faced Newcastle twice, and Isak was absent in the most recent match. He played in the previous one. He is a really important player for Newcastle and a tremendous threat as a striker."
He also emphasized, "He has speed comparable to the attackers at PSG and has created numerous one-on-one situations against our goalkeeper Alisson in the two most recent matches against Liverpool." Isak is also being linked with Arsenal.
