Angie Postecoglou (60) is reportedly 99% likely to be dismissed at the end of this season.
According to Tottenham Hotspur News on the 25th (Korean time), Daniel Levy, chairman of Tottenham, seems very likely to dismiss Postecoglou. This means that Tottenham could start next season with a new coaching system.
If Postecoglou steps down, the candidates for his successor are expected to include Mauricio Pochettino, head coach of the U.S. national soccer team, Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth, Marco Silva of Fulham, Thomas Frank of Brentford, and Brendan Rodgers of Celtic.
Tottenham Hotspur News noted that while Postecoglou may wish to prevent his dismissal, considering the current situation, the likelihood of him remaining in the coaching position next season is dwindling.
Tottenham, the team of Son Heung-min, currently sits 14th in the league with 34 points. They have recorded 10 wins (4 draws, 15 losses) in 29 matches this season. They have also been eliminated from both the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) and the Football Association (FA) Cup.
Tottenham's only hope lies in the UEFA Europa League. Recently, TBR Football reported that Chairman Levy demanded that Postecoglou secure qualification for European competition.
There is only one way for Tottenham to advance to European competition: to secure the top position in the Europa League. Tottenham has reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League and will face Eintracht Frankfurt at home and away on the 11th and 18th of next month.
If Tottenham cannot get past Frankfurt, it means that Postecoglou's dismissal is all but certain. Moreover, not only must they progress but also win the final.
John Wenham, operator of the social media platform Lilywhite Rose, stated in an interview, "I see no reason to keep Postecoglou. "
He continued, "I believe there are enough coaches available who can achieve better results with the current squad," and added, "Many people say, 'We should give them a chance to win the Europa League,' but I don't see it that way."
He also questioned, "I do not believe we can easily defeat Ajax and surpass Frankfurt, currently ranked 4th in the Bundesliga. We have recorded 15 losses in the Premier League and a total of 19 losses in official matches. Based on what grounds do we think we can beat Frankfurt?"
Wenham said, "Sometimes we need to be realistic. Tottenham should replace Postecoglou, and if it is believed that he will not win the Europa League, he will have a 99% chance of being dismissed."
This media outlet also observed, "If Tottenham remains in the lower tier of the league and fails to win the Europa League, it will be difficult for Postecoglou to retain his position as coach," stating that "both scenarios are likely to become reality. Ultimately, Postecoglou's coaching tenure is effectively coming to an end."
