Harry Kane (32, Bayern Munich) has been speculated to be considering a return to the English Premier League (EPL). However, the likelihood of this becoming a reality appears low.
Spanish media outlet 'El Nacional' reported on the 24th (Korean time) that "Kane wishes to return to England, and Liverpool has emerged as a strong destination."
Kane moved to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga from Tottenham just before the start of the 2023-2024 season.
He has recorded 21 goals in 24 league matches and 10 goals in 11 UEFA Champions League matches this season.
Kane's scoring ability has played a key role in Munich's league title race and advancement to the Champions League quarterfinals.
However, there are speculations that Kane could leave Germany after the season. According to 'El Nacional', Kane has reportedly conveyed a desire to finish his career in his home country of England.
Liverpool is currently seen as a strong candidate for his next team.
Liverpool appointed Arne Slot as the new manager following Jurgen Klopp's departure in May 2024. Slot quickly restructured Liverpool based on dynamic tactics, placing the team in the league's top tier this season.
Determined to lift the league trophy, Liverpool aims to strengthen their attacking lineup in the summer transfer window. 'El Nacional' noted that "despite being 31 years old, Kane continues to score consistently in Europe," adding that "his extensive experience and leadership could enhance Liverpool's attacking strength."
It remains uncertain whether Munich will allow Kane's transfer. He is regarded as having perfectly filled the gap left by Robert Lewandowski. Kane is not merely a goal-scorer but also plays a central role in the team.
A variable is the buyout clause. Another Spanish outlet, 'Pichajes,' hinted that "Kane could use the buyout clause to return to England after winning a title." According to this clause, a buyout of approximately £64 million (about 12.13 billion won) is set as of this summer, decreasing to approximately £54 million (about 10.24 billion won) next winter. If a desired club pays this amount, Kane's transfer could become a reality.
Currently, Kane is under contract with Bayern Munich until 2027.
He has expressed satisfaction with his life in Munich. After a victory against Werder Bremen last February, he stated, "I am very happy in Munich," and in an interview with FIFA, he said, "I've only been here for 18 months, but it has become an important part of my life. I'm thankful to the fans, the coach, and the team."
Kane is aiming for a double title in the Bundesliga and the Champions League this season. If he secures victories in both competitions, he could also be mentioned as a candidate for the Ballon d'Or.
