Professional baseball popularity is soaring. For the first time in history, both opening games were sold out.
All matches of the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held at five stadiums nationwide on the 23rd were sold out.
The Jamsil Lotte Giants-LG Twins game (23,750 people), the Munhak Doosan Bears-SSG Landers game (23,000 people), the Suwon Hanwha Eagles-KT Wiz game (18,700 people), the Gwangju NC Dinos-KIA Tigers game (20,500 people), and the Daegu Kiwoom Heroes-Samsung Lions game (24,000 people) were all filled to capacity.
The day before the opening game, there were consecutive sellouts in the opening series. For the opening two-game series on Saturday and Sunday, achieving sellouts in all games is a first in KBO League history.
The total attendance for the two-game series was 219,100, setting the record for the most attendees in KBO League opening two-game series history. The previous record was set in 2019 with 214,234 attendees on March 23-24.
Last year, the KBO League achieved a milestone by surpassing 10,887,705 attendees, becoming the first domestic professional sports league to break the dream mark of 10 million spectators. The emergence of young star players has led to a significant increase in young fans, particularly among women in their 20s and 30s.
This year, the Daejeon Shin-Kyu Stadium Hanwha Life Ballpark opened, adding another baseball stadium with a capacity of 20,000. The league is challenging for 10 million attendees for two consecutive years. The popularity of baseball is so high that a ticket reservation battle started from the opening two-game series.
