With the end of the 2024-2025 season approaching, Luka Modric (39, Real Madrid), whose contract is set to expire, is expected to re-sign with the club.

The British media outlet 'Tribuna' reported on the 22nd (Korea time) that "Modric is still maintaining his performance, and as long as his health permits, he is likely to stay with Real."

Having joined Real after leaving Tottenham in the 2012-2013 season, Modric has established himself as a key midfielder over 13 seasons, lifting numerous trophies including four La Liga titles, six UEFA Champions League titles, and five UEFA Super Cups. Notably, in 2018, he was awarded the Ballon d'Or and recognized as the best player in the world.

His competitiveness is still highly regarded even as he approaches middle age.

According to the Spanish media outlet 'Football Espana,' Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid manager, also hopes for Modric's retention. The outlet reported, "Ancelotti is satisfied with the influence Modric has both on and off the pitch, and the club may push for a one-year re-signing."

Modric himself has shown a positive stance toward re-signing. In an interview with French outlet 'Telefoot,' he said, "I'm not in a hurry to re-sign, but finishing my career at Real is my dream," hinting at a short-term agreement with the club.

Generally, it is unusual to extend the contract of a veteran player at the age of 39. However, as Modric continues to switch between starting and substitute roles while coordinating the midfield with high game concentration and wide vision, it seems that Real is keen on re-signing him.

Since the 2022-2023 season, Modric has been signing one-year short-term contracts each year to continue his journey with the team.

Modric's future plans are expected to be determined after the end of this season.
