'Captain' Son Heung-min (Tottenham)'s market value has dropped from 142.8 billion won to 47.6 billion won. The market value of Kevin De Bruyne, who shares a similar situation, has also decreased significantly.
The German transfer market specialist Transfermarkt reassessed the market value of the Tottenham squad on the 18th (Korean time).
According to Transfermarkt, the current highest market value in Tottenham is held by Dejan Kulusevski, who has been valued at 6 million euros (9.52 billion won).
Central defender Cristian Romero and midfielder Mickey van de Ven are tied for second place in market value at 55 million euros (87.3 billion won).
Following them are James Maddison and Brennan Johnson, valued at 50 million euros (79.3 billion won).
'Captain' Son Heung-min's market value has been assessed at 30 million euros (47.6 billion won).
Last December, Transfermarkt had valued Son Heung-min at 38 million euros (60.3 billion won). However, it has dropped by 12.7 billion won within three months.
The highest point for Son Heung-min's market value was December 2020, when Transfermarkt assessed it at 90 million euros (142.8 billion won).
However, Son Heung-min's value continues to decline.
Valued at 50 million euros (79.3 billion won) until 2023, his value dropped to 45 million euros (71.4 billion won) in May of last year.
Ultimately, it has fallen to 30 million euros. This marks a 40% decrease in value.
Though he is a key player for the team, his relatively advanced age of 1992 seems to have impacted this. Nevertheless, given Son Heung-min's current performance, there is no reason he shouldn't be selected for Tottenham's best 11.
Son Heung-min has recorded 7 goals and 9 assists in this season's Premier League.
If we include his stats in the UEFA Europa League (3 goals and assists), FA Cup (1 assist), and League Cup (1 goal), he has achieved a total of 11 goals and 12 assists in official competitions. No other player has been as offensively impactful as Son Heung-min.
The issue is that his performance has not received recognition. Jermaine Defoe, a former Tottenham player, did not include Son Heung-min in his best 11.
Spurs Web reported on the 18th that "Defoe made some controversial decisions when asked to compile an 11-man starting lineup combining players from his 2010-2011 Tottenham team and the current squad."
For Tottenham fans, the 2010-2011 season remains a fond memory. At that time, Tottenham reached the UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history and advanced to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Real Madrid.
De Bruyne has been responsible for Manchester City's golden era, winning the Premier League title 6 times, the UEFA Champions League (UCL) once, and the FA Cup twice. He is considered the greatest playmaker in Premier League history, alongside players like Sergio Agüero, David Silva, Yaya Touré, and Vincent Kompany, making him one of the best players in Manchester City history. Born in 1991, De Bruyne has been injury-prone since last season, and this season, he has also shown signs of physical issues, failing to exhibit the same performance on the field as before.
There are discussions about a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS). The British outlet Football Insider reported, "De Bruyne has decided to leave Manchester City to go to MLS. San Diego FC has expressed interest in acquiring De Bruyne. While there is also interest from the Saudi Pro League, he also wants to go to MLS. Manchester City will seek a replacement for De Bruyne." It is clear that he will seek a new team instead of remaining at Manchester City.
De Bruyne was valued at 150 million euros (238.4 billion won) in 2018, but is now at 27 million euros (42.9 billion won). This marks a decrease of 8 million euros, which is on par with Son Heung-min.
