Harry Kane (32, Bayern Munich) believes that his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or have significantly increased since leaving his former team Tottenham.
Kane left Tottenham for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023. Tottenham fans were shocked to see Kane, who they have watched grow and develop since his youth days, leave in search of a championship trophy.
Kane opted for Bayern Munich, the top club in the German Bundesliga, judging he would not be able to lift a championship trophy with Tottenham. Despite a trophy-less season last year, he remains optimistic about achieving that goal in what will be his second season.
Since moving to Bayern Munich, Kane has felt "more respected" and stated that he has developed an "aura," believing that this transfer has certainly put him in the running for the Ballon d'Or.
Kane has been involved in 99 goals in 82 matches since his transfer to Bayern Munich (76 goals and 23 assists). Joining the England national team, Kane noted that this could work to his advantage compared to his time at Tottenham.
According to the British 'Standard,' Kane said at a press conference, "Just being at a club like Bayern Munich has improved my confidence and sense of responsibility."
He added, "Sometimes playing for such a team, I get many opportunities and the expectation to score 30 or 40 goals in a season, and I enjoy those expectations," also stating, "In fact, it adds greater pressure on myself, motivating me to perform better."
Kane said, "I definitely feel that I have improved and developed," adding, "I think my aura as a player is more respected now. Playing in big matches on important nights gives me that feeling."
Kane has been the Premier League's top scorer three times during his time at Tottenham. However, he finished without a trophy, which left him feeling disappointed. He emphasized that he can now compete for the Ballon d'Or alongside club trophies at Bayern Munich.
Kane explained, "Absolutely. I felt this way last season too. I scored over 40 goals, but because we didn’t win team trophies, I couldn’t receive the Ballon d'Or." Last season, Kane scored 44 goals in 45 matches (36 goals in 32 league matches).
He continued, "When I was at Tottenham, no matter how many goals I scored, I felt I couldn’t enter those conversations unless I won the league or the Champions League," reflecting, "Finishing 10th in the Ballon d'Or while at Tottenham was the highest rank I could reach."
He added, "It means I am more respected globally and it's at a bigger stage," and noted, "To win the Ballon d'Or, I need to collect enough team trophies. I may need to score around 40 goals. That’s a possible target for this season. It’s certainly a goal I want to achieve."
