Harry Kane (32, Bayern Munich) said he is receiving more respect while playing football after leaving Tottenham.
Kane noted during a press conference ahead of the 2026 FIFA North and Central American World Cup European qualifiers against Albania, scheduled for 22nd (Korean time) at Wembley Stadium in London, England, that "I am more respected now than during my time at Tottenham."
He transferred to Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga last summer after parting ways with Tottenham, where he had spent nearly 20 years. He is currently in his second season with Munich.
Kane emphasized, "Just playing for a club like Munich increases my confidence and sense of responsibility. The basic expectation here is to score 30-40 goals each season. It's a significant burden, but I enjoy the expectations," adding that "I think I am being respected more now because I am participating in bigger games and more important stages than before."
His remarks drew attention from the local British media. The London Evening Standard reported, "Kane was a central figure on the England national team and one of the top strikers in the Premier League, but his evaluation abroad was relatively low. However, the situation changed after his transfer to Munich. Kane has recorded 99 attacking points in 82 games at Munich, greatly expanding his standing on the European stage. He is receiving better evaluations."
Kane has never won a major tournament with either his club or national team. However, this season is different. Munich is currently leading the Bundesliga, with only eight games remaining. It is a strong possibility for the championship.
Kane also seeks individual awards beyond the Bundesliga title with Munich.
He stated, "There were seasons when I scored over 40 goals at Tottenham, but I couldn't win a championship, making it impossible to win the Ballon d'Or. At that time, my highest ranking among the Ballon d'Or candidates was 10th. That was the limit. Now, I am recognized more on the global stage. Perhaps winning the Ballon d'Or might be possible. To win the Ballon d'Or, I need to achieve a championship and more than 40 goals at Munich. This season, I have the opportunity to fulfill both of those objectives. It is a goal I must achieve."
