Professional baseball player Hyun-sik Jang of LG Twins was hit by a home run in his LG debut.
Jang took the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning against the SSG Landers at the 2025 Futures League game held at the SSG Futures Field in Ganghwa on the 20th. It was Jang's first game in an LG uniform after signing a four-year aggregate contract worth 5.2 billion won with LG last November. He recorded 2 hits, 1 home run, and 2 earned runs in 1 inning.
That day, LG's starting lineup included Yong-jun Son (third baseman), Chang-geon Ham (right fielder), Min-soo Kim (second baseman), Bom Kim (catcher), Seong-jin Kim (first baseman), Kwan-woo Park (left fielder), Gyu-bin Shim (designated hitter), Tae-hoon Lee (shortstop), and Hyun-jong Kim (center fielder).
SSG's starting lineup included Yoo-seom Han (right fielder), Myung-jun Ko (first baseman), Jae-hoon Ha (left fielder), Tae-gon Oh (center fielder), Hyeong-woo Jo (catcher), Sang-hyun An (third baseman), Chan-hyung Kim (shortstop), Kyu-min Kim (designated hitter), and Jung-woo Seok (second baseman).
Hyun-sik Jang threw a fastball at 140 km/h against lead-off hitter Sang-hyun An. The second pitch, a 140 km/h fastball, allowed a double that hit the middle fence.
With no outs and a runner on second base against Chan-hyung Kim, the first pitch was a ball with a 127 km/h slider, and the second pitch, a 141 km/h fastball, came towards the batter's face, startling him and nearly causing him to fall backward. Fastballs of 139 km/h and 140 km/h were fouled off consecutively, and he got an out with a 139 km/h fastball, resulting in a flyout to the right fielder. The runner on second tagged up to third base.
With one out and a runner on third against Kyu-min Kim, he recorded an out with a flyout to the left fielder on a 141 km/h fastball. Due to the short distance, the runner on third was unable to tag up.
However, with two outs and a runner on third against Jung-woo Seok, he repeatedly threw sliders. A 127 km/h slider was hit for a two-run home run over the left wall. After giving up the runs, he got Lee Seung-min out on a line drive to the right fielder to finish the inning.
Hyun-sik Jang twisted his ankle while training at a camp in Arizona in mid-February. He underwent an X-ray examination at a local hospital in the U.S. and was diagnosed with 'no abnormalities in the bones.' After returning early, Jang underwent an MRI and detailed inspection in Korea and was diagnosed with a partial ligament tear on the outside of his right foot.
After rehabilitation, he attempted to pitch in 2nd team games and the final exhibition games, but the games were canceled due to rain and snow, leading to no appearances. He made his LG debut in a 2nd team game that day but did not show satisfactory performance. His fastball speed peaked at 141 km/h, making it difficult for him to be included in the opening day roster.
