Christian Eriksen (33), who previously played alongside Son Heung-min at Tottenham, is approaching the expiration of his contract with Manchester United (Man U). He is expected to leave England.

Eriksen stated in an interview with Danish TV2 on the 18th (Korea time), "There have been no discussions about a renewal with Man U. It seems I will go in the direction of my contract ending."

Eriksen is under contract with Man U until the end of this season.

After signing a three-year contract with Man U in July 2022, Eriksen recorded seven goals in 99 official matches.

Since the appointment of coach Ruben Amorim in November last year, Eriksen's position has diminished drastically. Since November, he has only appeared in 14 official matches.

Eriksen, a native of Denmark, began his professional career at Ajax (Netherlands) and joined Tottenham in August 2013, making his entrance to the English Premier League (EPL). He enjoyed his peak years at Tottenham, recording 69 goals in 305 matches, and garnered significant support from domestic fans while showing good synergy with Son Heung-min.

After transferring to Inter Milan (Italy) in January 2020, he faced the biggest crisis of his playing career when he collapsed from a heart attack during a match against Finland at Euro 2020 in 2021. He subsequently underwent surgery for the insertion of a cardiac defibrillator and had to leave Inter Milan.

Returning to the EPL with Brentford in January 2022, Eriksen transferred to Man U in July of the same year, playing at a major club again. However, under coach Amorim, his role has diminished, making his release likely.

Eriksen noted, "I am ready to take on new challenges," but also stated, "I do not plan to stay in England."

Regarding a return to Denmark, he expressed, "I feel that the timing to return home is important for both family and finishing my career. But it's not now. My goal is still to play for the national team, so it wouldn't be appropriate to return to Denmark right now."

Given these statements, Eriksen is highly likely to seek a new challenge in another league within Europe. His former team, Ajax, is also one of the strong options. The distinguished Dutch club Ajax attempted to sign Eriksen last summer, but the deal fell through due to financial reasons.

Eriksen also remarked, "I do not rule out any possibilities. I will watch to see what decision Ajax makes this summer."
