Call Palmer (23, Chelsea) and his team Chelsea have been the subject of somewhat rude remarks from his England national team seniors.
The British 'Daily Mail' reported on the 18th (Korean time) that 'Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes claimed that Call Palmer is too good a player to be playing for Chelsea.'
Call Palmer transferred from Manchester City to Chelsea ahead of the 2023-2024 season and quickly established himself as one of the most important players on the team. He has played 78 matches for Chelsea, scoring 39 goals and providing 21 assists, showcasing remarkable performances and has been selected for the England national team, making a dramatic equalizer at the 2024 UEFA European Championship (EURO 2024), asserting his presence.
Given his rapid growth and outstanding ability, there are analyses suggesting that Chelsea may no longer be the best team for him. Carragher, a 'Liverpool legend,' noted on 'The Overlap Fan Debate' that 'I was the commentator for the match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea, and Palmer showcased impressive passes twice early on. However, as time went on, it was clear that his frustration with his teammates was growing.'
He continued, 'This felt similar to the time when Steven Gerrard was overwhelmingly superior to his teammates at Liverpool. However, Gerrard didn't leave the team because he was a local player. In contrast, Palmer has signed a long-term contract of 6 to 7 years with Chelsea, but he possesses the skills to play for a team aiming for the Champions League title.'
He further expressed concern, stating, 'If he wishes to transfer, this long-term contract could actually become a hindrance.'
Chelsea has secured numerous championship trophies in the English Premier League over the past 20 years, but since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired the club, they have not been achieving stable results. Currently, Chelsea is aiming for the UEFA Europa Conference League title; however, this is not the top-tier stage Chelsea desires.
'Manchester United legend' Paul Scholes also stated, 'I feel that Palmer is playing too easily at Chelsea. He will play in every game and knows that he is always the best player on the team,' adding, 'But he needs to face greater challenges,' arguing that he should grow in a more competitive team.
Palmer recently missed the match against Arsenal due to injury concerns and was excluded from the England national team, leading to intensified interest regarding his future. Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White has been selected as his replacement.
The debate continues as to whether Palmer will remain at Chelsea and continue to be a central player or leave the team for new challenges. Currently, it is difficult for him to transfer due to his long-term contract, but considering his growth potential, his status will likely become an important issue within the Premier League in the coming years.
