It seems that the Tottenham fans' long-desired "Daniel Levy out" is not being realized.
Tottenham fans have continually expressed their dissatisfaction with Chairman Levy and the ENIC Group, which owns the club. While they have been recognized as a big club financially, they have neglected to maintain a strong squad and attract top players.
For this reason, Tottenham has often frustrated fans with passive investment despite being viewed as contenders for the league title. Some have expressed suspicion that the club "does not seem to want to win."
The demands of the fans have become stronger this season. Unlike Tottenham, which has become financially robust over the past 10 years, several managers have not shown significant effects despite taking the helm. Moreover, they all left after expressing dissatisfaction with the club's management style.
In this context, news emerged last summer that Amanda Staveley showed interest in acquiring Tottenham, which sparked excitement. Staveley raised about £500 million (approximately 945.3 billion won) through her investment firm, PCP Capital Partners, to explore the possibility of acquiring Tottenham.
Staveley successfully acquired Newcastle in October 2021 by bringing in Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman-led Public Investment Fund (PIF). She emerged as a hope for Tottenham fans to execute the "Levy out".
Indeed, Staveley has been involved in the actual operations by having her name listed on the board as a co-owner of Newcastle. She has received evaluations for leading the revival of Newcastle through suitable appointments and bold investments. However, she sold her equity last July and left Newcastle.
Meanwhile, British "TBR Football" reported on the 19th (Korea time) citing British "The Times" that Staveley's plans regarding the acquisition of Tottenham, which she showed interest in last summer, have encountered setbacks.
According to the article, Staveley initially intended to recruit Dougie Freedman, the sports director of Crystal Palace, known for having a unique vision, if she successfully acquired Tottenham. However, Freedman decided to move to Saudi Arabia's Al-Diriyah, leading to complications.
Freedman has demonstrated successful moves at Crystal Palace by signing talented young players such as Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Marc Guéhi, and Adam Wharton.
Staveley noted that Tottenham had attempted to sign Guéhi and Wharton. She believed that by hiring Freedman, she could strengthen the consolidation with them.
Ultimately, as Staveley's plans fell through, the likelihood of her pursuing the acquisition of Tottenham in the near term has become low. Crystal Palace is looking for Freedman's successor, and Tottenham has missed another opportunity to break away from Chairman Levy's management. It remains to be seen whether Staveley will continue to push for the acquisition of Tottenham.
