Tottenham is considering the sale of Cristian Romero.
TeamTalk reported on the 18th (Korea time) that "Tottenham is ready to sell Romero, and a transfer to Real Madrid is getting closer."
Romero has been a key defender for Tottenham since the 2021-2022 season. His presence is significant enough that the difference in performance when he is on the field versus when he is not is striking. After the fast defender Micky van de Ven joined last season, they showcased excellent synergy.
However, this season he has struggled with injuries. Romero returned to play against Bournemouth in the 28th round after being injured in the match against Chelsea last December. In the meantime, Tottenham's ranking fell to 14th, and they were eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
In particular, although they reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League (UEL), Romero's absence has not been easily filled.
Recently, there has been ongoing noise within the club. Although Romero returned after three months, his immediate selection for the Argentina national team has increased dissatisfaction among Tottenham fans.
In January, he also drew attention with an interview criticizing the club's passive recruitment policy.
TeamTalk stated that "Tottenham has set the transfer fee for Romero at £60 million (112 billion won). Tottenham is not confident about signing a new contract with Romero. If he does not agree to a new contract by this summer, they will allow his transfer."
According to local media, Tottenham is considering Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace) as a replacement for Romero.
