"I will be the catalyst for the growing Korean 3x3."
Former coach Park Geon-yeon was appointed as the 5th president of the Korea 3x3 Basketball Federation (KXO). Park Geon-yeon, who took office as the 5th KXO president, has made his mark as the first basketball person to serve as KXO president.
President Park Geon-yeon, who graduated from Shin Il High School and Yonsei University, has extensive experience in women's basketball, having started his coaching career at Hyundai Industrial Development, and later serving as a coach at both Hana Bank and Woori Bank. He continued his coaching journey at his alma mater Yonsei University and SK (then Cheongju SK), gaining experience in both men's and women's basketball.
His career as a national team coach is also impressive. President Park has experience coaching both men's and women's national teams and contributed to the men's basketball team winning a gold medal at the 2002 Busan Asian Games while assisting coach Kim Jin.
Having spent passionate time as a coach, President Park later served as the president of a basketball magazine, contributing to the development of Korean basketball through the magazine's launch and is the only basketball figure who has served as an analyst for all three major broadcasting companies (KBS, SBS, MBC).
President Park Geon-yeon, who also gained administrative experience as the executive director of the university basketball federation, noted, "I was appointed as the KXO president because the position became vacant due to the previous president's overseas work. I have been active as KXO vice president for the past three years, having a great interest in 3x3, and I feel a huge responsibility now that I am taking on this important position."
He continued by saying, "Recently, interest in 3x3 has been increasing. Domestic 3x3 tournaments are gradually developing, centered around the 'FIBA 3x3 Hongcheon Challenger' that has been ongoing since 2023, and exchanges with overseas are also increasing. Starting this year, all KXO tournaments are expected to be broadcast on KBS N Sports, and I believe these changes signal the advancement of Korean 3x3. As president of KXO, I will actively work for the diversification and enhancement of international competitiveness of Korean 3x3," promising to commit to practical work for the development of Korean 3x3.
