Oh Hyun-kyu (23, KRC Genk) scored his 10th goal of the season on the Belgian stage, gifting his team a victory. The coach was also pleased with his performance.

On the 16th (Korea time), Oh Hyun-kyu started in a home match against Union Saint-Gilloise at the Segerska Arena in Belgium for round 30 of the 2024-2025 Jupiler Pro League, scoring one goal to contribute to the team's 2-1 victory.

He recorded the team's second goal in the 38th minute of the second half while KRC Genk was leading 1-0, connecting a cutback from Noah Adegbenez at the left with a right-footed non-stop shot for consolidation.

In the 44th minute of the second half, Union Saint-Gilloise scored a consolation goal, but the match ended in a 2-1 victory for KRC Genk. Oh Hyun-kyu's goal was recorded as the winning goal.

After scoring the winning penalty in the 29th round against Seraing, Oh Hyun-kyu maintained his momentum by recording goals in consecutive matches. He raised concerns by missing the 28th round due to a hamstring injury but quickly returned to improve his performance.

Oh Hyun-kyu is now set to join the national team to prepare for two matches in the third round of Asian qualifying for the 2026 North and Central America World Cup. South Korea will face Oman in the 7th match of Group B on the 20th at Goyang Stadium and play against Jordan in the 8th match on the 25th at Suwon World Cup Stadium.

Currently, Oh Hyun-kyu is almost the only Korean player active as a starting striker for his team in Europe. Cho Gyu-sung (Mitchell United) is sidelined due to a long-term injury, and Lee Young-jun (Grasshopper Club Zürich) has also not played this year.

KRC Genk, now on a two-match winning streak, recorded 68 points and maintained its position at the top of the league.

KRC Genk coach Thorsten Fink expressed satisfaction in a post-match interview with the club, saying, "We dominated the first half. The second half saw some balance, but we created scoring opportunities at critical moments. Oh Hyun-kyu played an important role by scoring the team's second goal. The fans' support was a great boost; it was truly a fantastic atmosphere," while also noting that "the season is not over yet."
