The professional baseball team Kiwoom Heroes achieved two consecutive wins, thanks to the performance of rookie pitcher Jung Hyun-woo (19) and a home run show by the batters.
Kiwoom won 7-6 against the SSG Landers in a spring training game held at Incheon SSG Landers Field on the 13th. This marks a two-game winning streak after two consecutive losses.
The Kiwoom lineup recorded 8 hits and 3 home runs that day. Song Seong-mun, Lee Joo-hyung, and Kim Keon-hee hit home runs early on, securing the advantage. Lee Joo-hyung displayed a hot hitting streak by recording home runs in back-to-back games, following a game on the 11th against KT. Yeong Dong-wook, Lee Yong-kyu, Park Joo-hong, Jang Jae-young, and Jeon Tae-hyun also contributed by getting hits.
Starting pitcher Jung Hyun-woo recorded a win with 4 innings pitched, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 3 without allowing any runs. He has achieved two consecutive wins in spring training, with all innings pitched without allowing any runs. The bullpen comprised of Kim Seon-gi (⅓ innings, 3 earned runs), Park Yun-seong (1⅔ innings, 1 earned run), Lee Gang-joon (1 inning, no earned runs), Won Jong-hyun (1 inning, 2 earned runs), and Joo Seung-woo (1 inning, no earned runs) secured the team’s victory.
Kiwoom's Song Seong-mun opened the game with a leadoff home run in the first inning, seizing the momentum. Although Cardines was caught out with a pop-up to second base, Lee Joo-hyung hit another home run. Kim Dong-yeop earned a walk after a 14-pitch battle and although Park Joo-hong struck out, Jeon Tae-hyun produced a lucky hit for an RBI after Jang Jae-young's hit. With 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd, Kiwoom's Kim Keon-hee hit a routine ground ball to the shortstop, but a critical throwing error by shortstop Park Seong-han allowed another run to score, widening the gap to 4-0.
After a quiet stretch, Kiwoom saw its Jeon Tae-hyun walk leading off the fourth inning, followed by Kim Keon-hee hitting a two-run home run to secure the win. In the seventh inning, leading off, Yeong Dong-wook hit a double, quickly putting himself in scoring position. Following a ground out by Kang Jin-seong with one out and runners on 3rd base, Lee Yong-kyu grounded a single for an RBI, adding another run. The SSG came close, with Choi Jeong hitting a two-run home run in the eighth, but closer Joo Seung-woo held them scoreless in the ninth to end the game with a victory for Kiwoom.
Kiwoom manager Hong Won-ki noted in a post-game interview, "Starting pitcher Jung Hyun-woo delivered stable performances in his second spring training outing. It was particularly impressive to see him resolve crises on his own," praising the rookie pitcher for his excellent performance.
"Both Song Seong-mun and Lee Joo-hyung recorded home runs in today’s game, elevating their batting form," remarked Hong Won-ki. He added, "It is encouraging to see them finding their pace as the games progress," welcoming the batters' explosive hitting.
Kiwoom, on a two-game winning streak, is scheduled to play the second game of a two-game road series against SSG at Incheon SSG Landers Field on the 14th.
