It was announced on the 13th that Lee Jae, the legend of the Hyundai Capital Skywalkers Volleyball Team and a representative of South Korean volleyball, has decided to retire, concluding his 16 years of playing career.
After joining Hyundai Capital in 2010, player Moon Sung-min established himself as a key player in the V-League, leading the team with his strong offensive power and leadership. Notably, he was named the regular season MVP in the 2015-16 season, and in the following 2016-17 season, he received both the regular season and championship finals MVP awards, leading Hyundai Capital Skywalkers to their championship victory for the first time in 10 years.
He continued to show consistent performance, leading Hyundai Capital's golden era with the regular season victory in the 2017-18 season and the championship victory in the 2018-19 season. In particular, Moon Sung-min, who has dedicated a long time to the team, has served as a role model for younger players with his passion for volleyball and professionalism.
Moon Sung-min also played actively for the South Korean national team. He contributed to winning a gold medal at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, a bronze medal at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, and a silver medal at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games. His powerful serves and offensive skills have significantly impacted the development of volleyball in South Korea.
Moon Sung-min stated, "Thanks to the love and support of volleyball fans, I have been able to stand on the court for a long time," and noted, "I am preparing various opinions with the team on how to unfold my second chapter of life after my playing career."
He added, "In particular, I would like to contribute in various ways to expand the base of volleyball in our country and to promote the development of domestic professional volleyball."
Hyundai Capital Volleyball Team plans to hold Moon Sung-min's retirement ceremony after the home game against OK Savings Bank at Cheonan Yu Gwan-sun Gymnasium on March 20, honoring his dedication and contributions shown over the years.
