It doesn't feel good.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 held at Anfield in Liverpool, England, on the 12th at 5 a.m. (Korea time) for the 2024-2025 season.

PSG, who lost 0-1 in the first leg, evened the aggregate score at 1-1 and dramatically confirmed their advancement to the quarter-finals by winning 4-2 in the subsequent penalty shootout.

PSG formed their attack with Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The midfield line was composed of João Neves, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz, while the defense was formed by Nuno Mendes, William Pacho, Marquinhos, and Achraf Hakimi. Gianluigi Donnarumma guarded the goal.

Liverpool led the attack with DIO Jota, Luis Diaz, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Mohamed Salah, while Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch formed the midfield. The defense consisted of Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the goalkeeper was Alisson.

From the early stages of the match, Liverpool attacked aggressively, but PSG scored the opening goal with a quick counterattack. In the 12th minute of the first half, Barcola's pass from the right side was pushed in by Dembélé in front of the goal, giving PSG a 1-0 lead.

After that, Liverpool attempted to equalize multiple times, but PSG's solid defense and Donnarumma's saves shone. In the 17th minute of the first half, Barcola had a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper, but was stopped by Alisson's save. In the 35th minute of the first half, Dembélé penetrated from the right side and delivered a cutback pass to Khvicha, but the shot deflected off a defender and missed the goal.

In the second half, Liverpool pressed even harder. In the 8th minute of the second half, Diaz passed to Alexander-Arnold in the center of the box, and Alexander-Arnold attempted a long-range shot, but Donnarumma saved it. Alexander-Arnold then attempted another shot on the second ball, but this time struck the post.

Liverpool's header from Diaz in the corner kick situation in the 13th minute of the second half flew sharply, but it was stopped by Donnarumma's super save. In the 34th minute, a free kick from Robertson was connected with a header by Kwan, but the ball hit the post.

PSG counterattacked with a curling shot from Khvicha in the 41st minute of the second half, but it went slightly off the goal. Ultimately, the two teams entered extra time with the aggregate score tied at 1-1.

In the 11th minute of the first half of extra time, PSG's coach Luis Enrique brought in Lee Kang-in to replace Khvicha, taking a gamble. Positioned on the right side, Lee Kang-in injected energy into the attack with his quick breakthroughs and shots.

In the 4th minute of the second half of extra time, Dembélé attempted a strong shot from the left side of the box, but Alisson dove to save it. In the 8th minute, Due attempted a curling shot, but it went slightly wide of the goal.

Lee Kang-in had a crucial opportunity in the 10th minute of the second half of extra time. In a counterattack situation, he quickly broke through from the right side and attempted a shot, but it went straight toward Alisson, leaving him disappointed. He attempted another shot from outside the box in the 13th minute of extra time, but was again blocked by Alisson's save.

Ultimately, there was no resolution in extra time, and the two teams entered the penalty shootout.

As the first kicker, Vitinha and Liverpool's Salah both succeeded. PSG's second kicker Hamus also scored, but Liverpool's second kicker Nunez was stopped by Donnarumma's save, swinging the momentum in favor of PSG.

While the third kicker Dembélé succeeded, Liverpool's third kicker Curtis Jones missed, giving PSG an overwhelming advantage. Then, Due, as the fourth kicker, calmly finished and confirmed PSG's advancement to the quarter-finals.

After overturning the 0-1 loss in the first leg and advancing to the quarter-finals, PSG coach Luis Enrique smiled during an interview with 'Amazon Prime Video' after the match.

He noted, "It doesn't matter whether we deserved the victory. Both teams deserved to advance to the quarter-finals. We played better in Paris, and Liverpool showed better performance today."

He praised the players, saying, "Our players showed strong mentality and character at Anfield. It was a really tough match in a wonderful atmosphere."

Enrique mentioned, "We showed that we are a real team. Is this team at its peak? I think it’s just the beginning." He also said, "Liverpool was very strong, but we were able to win thanks to Donnarumma's outstanding saves." Considering that Lee Kang-in only played in extra time, it seems he believes that the team without Lee Kang-in is the best.

Meanwhile, many local French media outlets reported that Lee Kang-in's standing within the team has significantly decreased. Combining this report with Enrique's comments, it can be inferred that Enrique does not consider Lee Kang-in to be a key player.

Enrique stated, "When Liverpool and PSG met in the draw, both team managers probably thought the same thing: ‘It will be one of the best matches we can see in Europe.’ The Champions League is not a tournament where consistency is important. You have to show your best performance at critical moments. Both of us and Liverpool have endured a lot of pain."
