Under coach Ange Postecoglou, the possibility of Son Heung-min remaining at Tottenham has diminished.

Tottenham Hotspur News reported on the 13th (hereafter Korean time) that "Tottenham may sell Son Heung-min, and at least three players could leave the team within a few weeks."

This season, Tottenham is heading towards the worst scenario. They are currently in 13th place in the Premier League and have been eliminated from the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

Additionally, in the UEFA Europa League, they faced elimination after losing 0-1 to the Netherlands' AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the round of 16. If they fail to secure a comeback victory in the second leg, they will end the season without any trophies. Tottenham Hotspur News noted that "If coach Ange Postecoglou continues to lead, chairman Daniel Levy is likely to seize this summer as an opportunity to reform the team and make a fresh start."

According to reports, starting with Son Heung-min, there are claims that Cristian Romero and James Maddison could also be released.

Tottenham Hotspur News explained that "To initiate a new era, Tottenham needs funds from transferring core players to create a new team."

Son Heung-min has been active at Tottenham since 2015, establishing himself as the team's star player, but he has received evaluations that his performance has declined this season. Tottenham Hotspur News analyzed, "Son Heung-min has recorded 7 goals and 9 assists in 25 matches, but compared to the previous season, his performance has definitely dropped."

It was further reported that "Son Heung-min is currently one of the highest-paid players at Tottenham. However, questions are raised about whether the value he provides to the team justifies his high salary."

Son Heung-min's salary is reported to be £11 million (18 billion won), making him the top earner in the team. The assessment is that failing to produce results is Son Heung-min's biggest problem. Tottenham Hotspur News reported that "Son Heung-min is one of the players most loved by fans. His dedication and loyalty to the team are beyond doubt."

For now, Tottenham has activated the extension option in Son Heung-min's contract, extending it until June 2026. Therefore, for Tottenham to transfer Son Heung-min, they must receive a proper transfer fee while he has more than one year left on his contract.

If Son Heung-min is let go, Tottenham is considering several players as replacements.

Currently, Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), and Ivan Toney (Brentford) are being linked with Tottenham in the transfer market.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will face AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands) in the second leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League for the 2024-2025 season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on the 14th. If they lose, there will be nowhere left to go. Tottenham highlighted on their official website on the 10th that "Son Heung-min mentioned that he and his teammates need to reflect on themselves to return to the right path." This came after expressing disappointment following a 0-1 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and a 2-2 draw in the EPL 28th round against Bournemouth. Son Heung-min pointed out through Tottenham's streaming platform Spurs Play, "We start sloppily, fall back, and have too many matches where we’re chased by the opponent." He continued, "In the first half, the opponent created good chances, but thanks to the incredible saves by Guglielmo Vicario, we were able to continue the match. Still, a 2-2 draw is really disappointing. We need to earn the three points at home. We need to reflect on ourselves," revealing his regret. He emphasized, "No one can help us in the stadium. The players on the field need to feel more responsibility. We need to be stronger and move forward. We cannot remain on the same step forever. Now that it's March, we need to keep moving forward."
