Happiness is not based on ranking. A backup catcher who joined with the 100th overall pick in the 10th round won MVP at the Futures League spring camp.
Professional baseball team SSG Landers noted that "the Futures team will return through Incheon Airport on the 9th after finishing their spring camp in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan."
The SSG Futures team conducted the spring camp from Feb. 10 to Mar. 9 to discover promising players and develop their skills. Camp MVPs were pitcher Kim Hyun-jae and infielder Kim Kyu-min.
SSG explained, "During this camp, we conducted a lot of training and practice games for promising players who will lead the future of the club. In particular, the Futures team, which focused on strengthening defense, showcased solid defense during practice games, demonstrating the results of their training."
Kim Hyun-jae, selected as pitcher MVP, said, “I think I got good results because I worked hard until the end without getting injured. I believe the MVP was given as a sign to work even harder in the future. I want to show fans a good performance in the first team.” Kim Hyun-jae is a rookie pitcher who joined SSG as the 68th overall pick in the 7th round in 2025 after graduating from Daejeon High School.
Infielder MVP Kim Kyu-min stated, “I really worked hard since coming to the camp. I also achieved a great result of winning MVP. I will continue to work hard after returning to Korea. I want to show that I can play baseball well.” Kim Kyu-min, a graduate of Gongju High School and Yeonsei University, joined the team as the 100th overall pick in the 10th round in 2024, showcasing significant improvement during this camp and promising a bright future.
Park Jung-kwon, the SSG Futures team manager, noted, “It was nice to see the young players training hard. They also played boldly during practice games. The players exhibited solid defense. I am sure this camp will boost the players’ confidence. I hope they will play without fear of failure when they go back to Korea.”
The SSG Futures team will take a day off after returning on the 10th and will prepare for the home opener against the KBO Futures League Goyang Heroes on the 14th through practice games against Yonsei University on the 11th and Inha University on the 12th.
