Road FC changes its rules to fully allow elbow strikes.

Road FC announced the rule change to allow elbow strikes on Jan. 31. It had been 10 years since it banned elbow strikes following a competition on March 21, 2015.

The allowance of elbow strikes was based on the fact that fans have become more accustomed to them, and there is a growing opinion that they should be permitted to satisfy fan needs.

At the time of the initial announcement, Road FC still categorized vertical elbows as fouls. However, after discussions with the referees, it was decided to allow both vertical and horizontal elbows, and an official announcement was made. However, strikes to prohibited areas such as the back of the head and the spinal line, which are also fouls when punched, remain banned.

The revised elbow rules of Road FC are the same as those of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Road FC expects to see aggressive and dynamic matches following the rule change to align with global trends.

The full allowance of elbow strikes will take effect starting from the upcoming Road FC 072, which will be held at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on the 16th. Road FC 072 is set to begin at 2 p.m. on the 16th and will be broadcast live via SPOTV, Kakao, Daum Sports, and SOOP.
