KBO Chairman Heo Gyu-yeon and Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin signed a memorandum of understanding on the 5th to create a baseball stadium in Seongnam City, including converting the Seongnam Comprehensive Sports Complex into a dedicated baseball stadium for hosting professional baseball games.
Seongnam City plans to complete the construction of the dedicated baseball stadium, which will remodel the main stadium of the Comprehensive Sports Complex located in Seongnam-dong, Jungwon-gu, to a capacity of over 20,000 spectators to meet the latest KBO League stadium standards by 2027.
KBO will cooperate through the signing of the agreement to enable the hosting of professional baseball games, international competitions, and youth-related events, while participating in construction consultation and practical discussion groups according to KBO's baseball stadium management guidelines to discuss win-win strategies for baseball and local economic development.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin emphasized that "the construction of the dedicated baseball stadium and the hosting of professional baseball games will provide an important opportunity to open new possibilities for Seongnam City, as well as contribute to local economic revitalization and provide dreams and hopes to citizens who love baseball." He also noted, "I ask for the continuous interest and support of citizens, and I believe this project will greatly contribute to the development of Seongnam City and the promotion of sports culture."
In response, Chairman Heo Gyu-yeon expressed hope that Seongnam City will become a model local government for the success of the sports industry in revitalizing the local economy and promoting baseball through the establishment of the dedicated baseball stadium, and extended deep gratitude to Mayor Shin Sang-jin and the citizens of Seongnam.
