The new foreign pitcher of the professional baseball Doosan Bears, Jack Logue, has gained attention for his kind act of delivering the spring camp MVP prize to a rookie pitcher.
A Doosan official said on the 4th, "Jack Logue called over rookie pitcher Hong Min-kyu immediately after winning the MVP and handed him the modest prize given for the MVP award."
Concluding the spring camp schedule on the 3rd, Doosan's manager Lee Seung-yeop chose Jack Logue as the camp MVP along with his coaching staff. In two exhibition games held at the secondary camp site in Miyazaki, Japan, Jack Logue pitched 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit with no walks and no runs, showcasing a perfect performance. He received the MVP prize, and it was a sudden decision for him to generously give it to the rookie pitcher.
Jack Logue said, "I didn't expect to receive the MVP because all the pitchers performed well. It’s an honor," adding, “I will give the prize money to the deserving rookie (Hong) Min-kyu. I believe my skills have greatly improved during this Miyazaki camp.”
Receiving the prize money, Hong Min-kyu expressed, "Thank you very much. Jack Logue said, 'I hope you buy something nice since your shoes are worn out' as he handed me the prize money," and added, “He gave me various advice during the camp, which led to good results. I promise to repay Jack after the season starts if I achieve good results."
Doosan terminated its contract with Thomas Hatch by mutual agreement in December last year due to a medical issue and chose Jack Logue without hesitation. They invested $800,000 (about 11 billion won) to acquire a left-handed pitcher who throws a sweeper.
Jack Logue made his major league debut with the Oakland Athletics in 2022 and appeared in 19 games (10 starts) over 3 seasons in the big leagues, recording 70 innings with a 3-8 win-loss record and an earned run average of 7.20. He wore the uniforms of the Detroit Tigers for the 2023 season and the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2024 season.
In Triple-A minor league, he played in 24 games (13 starts) last year, pitching 93⅔ innings with 75 hits allowed and an earned run average of 2.69. His career stats in Triple-A include 87 games (68 starts), 355⅓ innings, 21 wins, 25 losses, 1 hold, 1 save, with an earned run average of 5.07.
Jack Logue employs a fastball with a top speed of 147 km/h, as well as a sinker, changeup, cutter, and sweeper. He is a rare left-handed sweeper in the KBO League. A Doosan official noted, "Logue has been a player we have consistently observed for three years; his deceptive movements from his unique pitching form make it hard for batters to hit him."
Jack Logue drew significant attention from the start of the first spring camp in Sydney, Australia. His sweeper had a significant break, and the cutter dove into left-handed hitters. Left-handed batters from Doosan, who experienced Jack Logue’s breaking pitches during live pitching, universally commented that the ball came in fearfully fast. In his first live pitching session, Jack Logue raised his velocity to 150 km/h and received evaluations that his control and command were even better than that of Number 1 starter Cole Irvin.
Hong Min-kyu, drafted 26th in the 3rd round of Doosan in 2025 after graduating from Yatap High School, was the only rookie pitcher from Doosan included in the camp roster and completed the second spring camp, gaining recognition for his potential. He made three appearances in practice games in Miyazaki, Japan, striking out 3 innings with 3 hits, without allowing any runs.
