Lee Jung-hoo's fantastic sliding catch was the talk of the training ground the next day.
On April 1 (Korea time), spring training for the 2025 Major League Baseball San Francisco Giants was held at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona, USA.
After getting on base with a walk in an exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners the previous day, extending his scoring streak to three consecutive games, Lee Jung-hoo was excluded from the starting lineup for today's game against the Brewers.
Lee Jung-hoo, who warmed up before the game and moved to the field. Prior to the catch ball session, the San Francisco players talked about the fantastic defense Lee showed the previous day.
Lee Jung-hoo reenacted the situation from that time and showed a disappointed gesture regarding the call that changed the out to a triple.
On the 28th, Lee Jung-hoo started as the No. 3 center fielder in an exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners at Peoria Stadium. In the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs and a runner on first base, he made a sliding catch on a fly ball to right-center field hit by Ryan Bliss. It was such a spectacular catch that cheers and applause erupted from the stands. The umpiring crew initially called it an out but reversed the decision to a triple after a four-man consultation.
Lee Jung-hoo, who underwent surgery on his left shoulder after colliding with the fence while attempting a jump catch last year, said in an interview with OSEN after the game, "I caught it (without a bounce). The coaches asked the broadcast video crew to review it again, and they confirmed that it was definitely caught. The bounce happened inside the glove. Since it's just an exhibition game, it's okay," and continued, "If I hadn't dove, I wouldn't have been able to catch that ball, so I made a sliding catch. It might be significant that it's my first sliding catch after the surgery. My shoulder is fine."
In the first exhibition game against the Texas Rangers on the 23rd, Lee Jung-hoo, unafraid of colliding with the fence, sprinted at full speed and showcased excellent defense. His focus seems to be solely on quickly adapting to the injury recovery period.
