Jeonbuk could not smile in the Hyundai Derby.

Jeonbuk Hyundai lost 0-1 to Ulsan in the 'Hana Bank K League 1 2025 Round 3' held on the 1st at Ulsan's Munsu Football Stadium. Ulsan improved to 2 wins and 1 loss. Jeonbuk (1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss) suffered its first defeat of the season.

The winning goal came in the 20th minute of the second half. Boyanich, who received the ball in front of the box, shot with his right foot, hitting the top of the goalpost and directly resulting in a goal. It was a powerful shot that Song Beom-keun dove for but could not stop.

After the match, Gus Poyet, the Jeonbuk coach, said, “It was an intense game. It took time for us to find our tempo in the early stages. We responded well after conceding, but our timing was off. I gained a lot of information about our players.”

Regarding the difference between champion Ulsan and Jeonbuk, Poyet noted, “The gap between the two teams was still evident in the first half. The last 20 minutes were okay. We need to analyze after the game. Since it was our first away game, I wanted to see the players' reactions. We learned a lesson.”

Lee Seung-woo, who started that day, played only 56 minutes before being replaced by Kwon Chang-hoon. Coach Poyet explained, “Lee Seung-woo is a tactically important player. I thought it was the right tactical timing to bring in Kwon Chang-hoon, who can use his left foot in that position. Kwon Chang-hoon is also a technically good player, comparable to Lee Seung-woo. He is learning to control in our way. I thought we could respond effectively when Kwon Chang-hoon was substituted.”

What was the players' reaction after the derby match defeat? Poyet said, “The atmosphere is down. That’s football. We know the importance. Losing 0-1 to the champions is not a dramatic loss. I don’t think there is a need for significant changes. Congratulations to the opposing team.”
