The Korea Sports Council held its regular delegates' meeting for 2025 at the Olympic Park's Olympic Hall on the 28th, where they approved the business results for 2024, the settlement of account, the selection of the host city for the 2036 Summer Olympics, and the nomination of officials.
During the meeting, Lee Sang-hyun, president of the Korea Cycling Federation, and Jung Chang-hoon, president of the Korea Swimming Federation, were jointly recommended as the administrative auditors for the 42nd Korea Sports Council, and a competitive election took place to select the auditor, with delegates voting and Lee Sang-hyun winning the election.
The auditor group of the Korea Sports Council consists of two administrative auditors (representatives of member organizations and representatives of city and provincial sports councils) and one financial auditor, for a total of three members, with a term lasting until the regular general meeting in 2026.
Lee Sang-hyun, the auditor, served as a director of the 41st Korea Sports Council during his term as president of the Korea Hockey Association from 2021 to 2024, establishing a connection with the council.
Additionally, this auditor has been actively building experience in the sports field by serving as a past member of the Environment Conservation Committee of the Korea Mountain Federation, a member of the Inter-Korean Sports Exchange Committee of the Korea Sports Council, a sports committee member of the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, a member of the Seoul City Sports Development Committee, and a director of the Gyeonggi-do Sports Council.
Following the Hangzhou Asian Games, he also served as the deputy head of the national team of South Korea for the Paris Olympics, dedicating himself on-site to ensure that South Korean athletes could showcase their best abilities, contributing significantly to achieving the country's all-time record for the most gold medals in Olympic history (13 gold medals).
This auditor noted, "There are many challenging issues that need to be addressed in South Korea's sports community. For this, everyone in the sports and academic fields must unite and work hard," and added, "As many people are expecting reforms in the sports community, I will do my best as an auditor representing member sports organizations to ensure efficiency and transparency along with the changes in the sports community."
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-hyun is the CEO of Taein and the grandson of the late Gu Tae-ho, founder of LS Group and honorary chairman of LS Cable & System. Following his father, Lee In-jeong, current president of the Asian Mountaineering Federation (former president of the Korea Mountain Federation), he served as president of the Korea Hockey Association and has become a hot topic as the first person to serve as president of an individual sports organization across three generations in the Korean sports community.
Additionally, he is serving as the chairman of the National Chorus under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and a board member of the National Theater Promotion Foundation, being recognized as a key figure in bridging the Korea Sports Council and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
