Gwangju FC has strengthened its lineup by signing veteran midfielder Liquor tax (34).
Gwangju announced on the 28th that it has acquired Liquor tax, who has played for Gamba Osaka and Daejeon Hana Citizen.
Liquor tax, a graduate of Neunggok High School and Konkuk University, is a former national team player widely known among fans. He successfully debuted with the South Korea national team in 2015 and participated in various international tournaments, including the 2017 East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) E-1 Championship (East Asian Cup), the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Notably, during the World Cup match against Germany, he made a strong impression by providing a long pass to assist Son Heung-min’s goal.
His club career is also impressive. Liquor tax made his professional debut with Busan IPark in 2012 and quickly gained attention for his broad activity level and excellent passing skills. He has played for FC Seoul, Asan Mugunghwa, and Daejeon Hana Citizen, excelling in K League 1 and K League 2, and in 2021, he gained experience in the J League while with Gamba Osaka.
In the K League, Liquor tax has played a total of 260 matches, scoring 16 goals and providing 30 assists. In the J League, he appeared in 27 matches and recorded 2 assists. Although he has reached veteran status, he still possesses solid fundamentals and a wide vision, excelling in midfield coordination and receiving high evaluations for his sharp kicking ability, especially in set-piece situations.
This season, Gwangju is providing many opportunities to existing player Park Tae-jun, newcomer Yoo Jae-ho, and rookie Kang Hee-soo in midfield. Amid a busy schedule that includes league matches and the AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE), the addition of Liquor tax, whose skills and leadership are well-validated, is akin to having a divine army. He is expected to provide experience to younger players and support to Coach Lee Jeong-hyo.
Liquor tax noted, "The Gwangju FC team that I faced as an opponent was truly a team that played good football, and I have had a lot of interest in the color and philosophy that Gwangju FC embodies." He added, "I want to be a great help in making Gwangju FC a recognized team alongside the coach and my teammates and to do my best to show the fans what they want on the field."
