The Samsung Lions left-handed pitcher Baek Jong-hyun showed somewhat shaky performance in his first appearance in the Okinawa League.

On the 27th, Baek Jong-hyun recorded 2 innings, 8 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, and 4 earned runs in a practice match against the KT Wiz at Onna Akama Ballpark in Okinawa, Japan.

The start was good. In the first inning, after getting Kwang Baek-ho and Yoo Jun-kyu out on fly balls, Baek Jong-hyun allowed a single to Heo Kyung-min that went through the gap at third base.

In the second inning, Baek Jong-hyun issued a walk to the leadoff hitter Hwang Jae-kyun and got Kim Min-hyuk out on a fly ball to center field. A hit by Bae Jeong-dae made it first and third with one out. A hit by Oh Yun-seok deflected off Baek Jong-hyun's glove. The runner on third, Hwang Jae-kyun, crossed home plate while Oh Yun-seok reached first base.

In the continued crisis with one out and runners on first and second, Baek Jong-hyun managed to prevent further runs by getting Jang Jun-won out on a fly ball to right field and striking out Kwang Baek-ho for a Samjin.

In the third inning, during a surprise bunt by leadoff hitter Yoo Jun-kyu, a throwing error by the second baseman resulted in no outs and a runner on second base. After allowing another run with a single by Heo Kyung-min, Baek Jong-hyun faced a bases loaded situation due to consecutive hits by Moon Sang-cheol and Hwang Jae-kyun. He allowed a hit to Kim Min-hyuk, recording his third earned run.

The Samsung bench brought in second-year pitcher Jeong Min-seong in place of Baek Jong-hyun with the bases loaded and no outs. Jeong Min-seong induced a double play from the first batter Bae Jeong-dae, quickly getting two outs. He also hit Oh Yun-seok and Jang Jun-won with pitches, allowing one more run. As a result, Baek Jong-hyun's earned runs increased.

Jeong Min-seong retired Kwang Baek-ho with a ground ball to finish the inning. As of the end of the third inning, Samsung is trailing 0-4.

Meanwhile, after graduating from Sangwon High School, Baek Jong-hyun was selected by Samsung in the second round of the 2007 draft. Until last year, he appeared in a total of 424 games in the first team, recording 67 wins, 62 losses, 2 saves, and 24 holds. His earned run average is 4.60.

In 2021, he achieved a personal best with 14 wins in a single season and recorded 6 wins and 5 losses with an earned run average of 5.95 in 17 games last year.
