'The son of the wind' Lee Jung-hoo (San Francisco Giants outfielder) was excluded from the starting lineup the day after hitting his first home run of the spring training.
On the 25th (Korean time), Lee Jung-hoo hit a home run from his first at-bat in the spring training game against the Colorado Rockies at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona, U.S.
He hit a solo homer over the wall against Colorado's starting pitcher Chase D'Arnaud with two outs and no runners on base in the first inning. This was his first home run in 310 days since the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 21 of last year.
In the 3rd inning, in his second at-bat, Lee faced a new pitcher (right-handed) Tanner Gordon. In a scoring opportunity with one out and runners on first and second, he reached first base on a walk. In the 5th inning, after two outs, in his third at-bat, he faced right-handed pitcher Jimmy Hergert. He attacked the seventh pitch in a full count, but he was out with a fly ball to left field. Lee was replaced by Jonah Cox during the defensive play in the top of the 6th inning and finished the game.
As Lee Jung-hoo's first home run of spring training came after he ended the previous season early due to a shoulder injury in May, the San Francisco team expressed their excitement by posting a video of Lee's home run on their official social media, stating, "Lee Jung-hoo is so back."
Bob Melvin, the San Francisco manager, praised Lee's home run after the game, saying, “Today, hitting felt much more comfortable. Not only did he hit a home run, but he also worked the count favorably by watching a pitch he had swung through in the transfer game.”
Lee Jung-hoo did not make it into the starting lineup for the spring training game against the Oakland Athletics scheduled at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona, on the 26th.
On this day, San Francisco set the batting order as center fielder Grant McCray, left fielder Marco Luciano, right fielder Luis Matos, first baseman Gerard Encarnacion, third baseman Casey Schmidt, catcher Sam Huff, designated hitter Bryce Eldridge, shortstop Sergio Alcantara, and second baseman Osleivis Basabe.
