Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) has once again become the subject of transfer rumors to Manchester United.

The British outlet "Give Me Sport" reported on the 24th (Korean time), "Manchester United is putting all its effort into acquiring a 'world-class' striker. They are reportedly all-in for Tottenham captain Son Heung-min's shocking summer transfer."

The outlet reported, citing the Spanish "Pichajes," that "Manchester United is keeping an eye on Son Heung-min to add a striker verified in the Premier League during the upcoming transfer market. They reportedly highly appreciate Son Heung-min’s leadership, scoring ability, and versatility, as he can perform roles on both the wing and centrally."

Tottenham had previously been linked to Manchester United last December. At that time, Son Heung-min was yet to trigger the one-year extension option in his contract with Tottenham and was linked to several teams, including not only Manchester United but also Barcelona. However, as Tottenham blocked Son Heung-min's free agent transfer, it seemed like nothing would come of it, but rumors have resurfaced.

It is clear that Manchester United needs a reliable striker. Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have been consistently underperforming, while Marcus Rashford and Antony have also left the team on loan. If Son Heung-min, who can play multiple positions in the attacking line, were to join, he could be a great asset.

"Give Me Sport" claimed, "Manchester United is preparing for a busy first summer under manager Rúben Amorim. According to sources, they aim to reinforce both a striker and a defensive midfielder, center-back, and left wing-back."

Furthermore, the media stated, "According to Pichajes, Manchester United is prepared to make 'significant' offers this summer to persuade Tottenham to sell Son Heung-min. This would become the 'most talked-about' transfer this summer," adding, "Tottenham is said to reconsider Son Heung-min's future if a substantial offer arrives, as he has been with the club since 2015."

Pichajes reported, "Manchester United is putting all its effort into acquiring Son Heung-min. He is a player who can provide leadership and diversity, as well as goals from the forefront of the attack. Manchester United believes Son Heung-min can resolve the attacking imbalance and become a key player for the team."

"The Hard Tackle" also strongly recommended Son Heung-min to Manchester United. The media expressed, "Manchester United needs more quality and depth in their attacking line. The versatile Son Heung-min would be an ideal signing, and there is no doubt that he possesses the skills and experience to play at one of the biggest clubs in the world. If he joins Manchester United, he would certainly make an immediate impact, making him a perfect fit for the team."

Son Heung-min is a living legend at Tottenham. He recently joined the 70-70 club in the Premier League, rewriting Tottenham's history. This is a remarkable achievement that only 10 players in the Premier League's entire history have accomplished.

Tottenham defeated Ipswich 4-1 in the 26th round of the 2024-2025 Premier League (PL) away game held at Portman Road in the United Kingdom on the 23rd. This victory marked Tottenham's third consecutive league win after approximately 14 months since December 2023.

Son Heung-min shone on the pitch. He started as a left winger in a 4-2-3-1 formation and contributed two assists over 74 minutes on the field. Perhaps owing to a full week of rest, he showcased a light-footed performance, disrupting the Ipswich defense.

In the 18th minute of the first half, he assisted Brennan Johnson's opening goal with a perfect breakthrough and cross, and eight minutes later, he again assisted Johnson's second goal with another bold breakthrough and accurate pass. He continued to lead the Tottenham attack until he was substituted for Wilson Odobert. Tottenham wrapped up a commanding 4-1 victory with goals from Jed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski later in the second half.

Son Heung-min, who added two assists with perfect plays, achieved a total of 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, marking his fifth career record of reaching double digits in both categories. He has previously accomplished this feat in the 2017-2018 season (18 goals, 11 assists), 2019-2020 season (18 goals, 11 assists), 2020-2021 season (22 goals, 17 assists), and the 2023-2024 season (17 goals, 10 assists).

Additionally, Son Heung-min joined the 70-70 club in the Premier League. He has played 326 matches in the PL, scoring 126 goals and providing 71 assists. So far, only 10 players have achieved 70 goals and 70 assists in the PL, including Teddy Sheringham (146 goals, 76 assists), Wayne Rooney (208 goals, 103 assists), Frank Lampard (177 goals, 102 assists), Ryan Giggs (109 goals, 162 assists), Andy Cole (187 goals, 73 assists), Dennis Bergkamp (87 goals, 96 assists), Steven Gerrard (120 goals, 92 assists), Thierry Henry (175 goals, 74 assists), Mohamed Salah (182 goals, 85 assists), and Kevin De Bruyne (70 goals, 118 assists).

Moreover, Son Heung-min has set a new assist record for Tottenham. "Spurs Global" highlighted, "Son Heung-min has recorded 71 assists in the PL, becoming the first Tottenham player to achieve over 70 assists in the league."

Since Tottenham was founded in 1882, there has been no player with more league assists than Son Heung-min. The second place is Darren Anderton with 67 assists, and the third is Christian Eriksen with 62 assists. Each additional assist Son Heung-min adds in league matches marks a new chapter in Tottenham's history.

Son Heung-min continues to display his exceptional skills, which is further evidenced by the links to 'PL rival' Manchester United. "The Hard Tackle" noted, "Son Heung-min could transform Manchester United's attack in the short term. He still boasts top-level capabilities and will strive to compete at a high level. Manchester United may be able to offer that opportunity."

However, it is also likely that the priority target for Manchester United is not Son Heung-min. This is because Son Heung-min does not fit the 'traditional number 9' striker profile that Manchester United desires. He has been performing as a central striker under manager Ange Postecoglou, but his best position remains the left wing.

"Give Me Sport" stated, "A new striker is identified as Manchester United's top priority. Liam Delap of Ipswich Town and Victor Osimhen of Napoli are being mentioned as potential signings." It added, "Delap has emerged as one of Chelsea's options, while Osimhen is drawing interest from Saudi Arabia. Manchester United could face competition for both players."
