The Seoul World Cup Stadium was as hot as the national team.
FC Seoul defeated Anyang 2-1 on the 22nd at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 Round 2 home opener, thanks to consecutive goals from Lingard and Lucas.
After losing to Jeju United in Round 1, Seoul (3 points) secured its first victory of the season. They also celebrated amidst over 40,000 fans gathered at the home opener. On this day, it was also the home debut of Kim Jin-su. Kim, who played eight seasons for Jeonbuk Hyundai, joined Seoul ahead of this season. After finishing the opening match away at Jeju, he stood in front of the home fans for the first time on this day. After the match, Kim noted, "I always came to the Seoul World Cup Stadium only as an away player, but the atmosphere was as hot as a national team match," and added, "Even in the cold weather, many people came, so I think it will be a memorable experience for a long time." Kim seamlessly blended into the game despite it being his home debut. He contributed to the victory while defending the left flank and even raised his arms to encourage the crowd's enthusiastic cheers during the match. Kim said, "Since we were winning, I wanted to bring a little more energy into the atmosphere," and expressed that he hopes the new players felt happy due to their victory today.
Having experienced various situations in the K League, Kim Jin-su evaluated the match against Anyang with a cool perspective.
Kim stated, "Of course, the players were aware of the external issues, but we talked about focusing on football and staying calm during the match," and added, "It was impressive when I stepped onto the field. The Anyang fans were really cheering hard, and our fans came in numbers comparable to a national team game, so it will definitely be memorable."
Regarding the condition of the field, he explained, "When (Ki) Sung-yong struck the ball there, I struggled to position my standing foot during crosses or set pieces." He continued, "While playing, I often thought it was risky. Because the opening was brought forward, I hear that not only we but other teams also expect to have injured players. Although we have to wait until the weather gets better, I hope we can find another way quickly." Meanwhile, Kim emphasized 'championship DNA' upon joining Seoul. He said, "I think the key to being a strong team is how to continue winning and quickly recover from losing streaks. Although we lost the first match, we won this match, so if we can achieve a winning streak, I believe the atmosphere will change."
