Korean basketball, which performed poorly in the Thailand game, has changed.
The men's national basketball team, led by head coach Ahn Jun-ho, achieved a significant victory over the home team Indonesia, winning 90-63 in the 'FIBA Jeddah Asia Cup 2025 group stage Group A match' held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the 23rd (Korean time).
With a record of 4 wins and 2 losses, Korea secured second place in Group A, following Australia (6 wins). Korea's two losses were both to Australia.
Korea narrowly won 91-90 against Thailand in an away game on the 20th after a poor performance. The players were complacent during the game and almost lost to Thailand for the first time in history.
The Indonesia match, which revitalized the team spirit, was different. From the early first quarter, Korea pressured the opponent with strong perimeter defense. Lester Prosper, who played for KT, made an appearance as a naturalized player. Ha Yun-ki and Lee Seung-hyun took turns defending against him. Korea led the first quarter 24-17.
The only college student, Moon Yoo-hyun, put a lot of energy into defense. Captain Lee Seung-hyun also dove for the ball. By the end of the second quarter, all 11 players who had entered the game had scored. Korea led the halftime score 49-24.
As the second half began, Indonesia scored from both inside and outside, narrowing the score gap to 18 points. Lee Geun-hwi's three-point shot sparked a scoring spree, and all 12 players of Korea succeeded in scoring. With Ha Yun-ki's dunk, Korea pulled ahead again at 73-47.
Head coach Ahn Jun-ho did not rely on specific players and utilized the team evenly. Lee Won-seok, Yang Hong-seok, Yang Jun-seok, and Park Ji-hoon, who had not played much, took to the court in the fourth quarter. With Lee Won-seok contributing to the scoring, Korea comfortably wrapped up the game. Moon Jung-hyun finished with a dunk.
Lee Woo-seok scored the highest with 13 points. Ha Yun-ki, Ahn Young-jun, and Lee Seung-hyun each scored 10 points. Korea demonstrated an ideal operation with all 12 players successfully scoring.
