Figure skating star Kim Chae-yeon (Surigo) clinched a gold medal at the Four Continents Championships held in her home country.
The 2025 Asian Games gold medalist in women's figure skating, Kim Chae-yeon, received a total score of 148.36 points at the women's singles free skating event of the 2025 International Skating Union (ISU) Four Continents Figure Skating Championships held at the Mokdong Ice Rink in Seoul on the 23rd, with a technical score (TES) of 78.27 points and an artistic score (PCS) of 70.09 points.
Earlier, Kim Chae-yeon, who received a total score of 74.02 points in the short program, secured a final total score of 222.38 points, capturing gold medals in consecutive recent competitions following the Asian Games. Additionally, Kim set a personal best in the previous short program and achieved another best score in the free skating, resulting in her highest total score.
Since Kim Yuna won the Four Continents Championships in 2009, Kim Chae-yeon became the third South Korean woman to stand at the top, following Lee Hae-in (Korea University). The men's competitor, Cha Jun-hwan (Korea University), also topped the podium in 2022.
On this day, Kim Chae-yeon completed all jumping tasks without any mistakes. Especially in the second half of her performance, she appeared not to be in her best condition, but she managed to perform excellently, garnering applause. Her ability to perform without showing signs of injury played a significant role in earning her applause.
Meanwhile, after winning gold medals in two consecutive competitions, Kim Chae-yeon's next goal is the World Championships to be held in the United States next month.
