Players expressed their frustration at the draw.
Jeonbuk Hyundai faced Gwangju FC on the 23rd at 4:30 p.m. at Jeonju World Cup Stadium in the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 Round 2, ending in a 2-2 draw after a fierce battle.
Jeonbuk fell behind after conceding the opening goal to Asani in the 14th minute of the first half. However, they equalized with a header goal from Compaño in the 21st minute. In the 17th minute of the second half, Gwangju's Oh Hoo-seong, who was brought on as a substitute, scored a goal to take the lead, but immediately after conceding, Compaño scored again with a header to equalize.
After that, both teams created several scoring opportunities, but no additional goals were scored. Jeonbuk recorded 4 points (1 win, 1 draw), while Gwangju recorded 2 points (2 draws), finishing the match in a 2-2 draw.
After the match, Jeonbuk head coach Gus Poyet noted, "It was a difficult game because we allowed the lead twice. It seems difficult to play three consecutive home games. It is also hard to win three consecutive matches at home. Still, the players showed a strong desire to win and their individuality."
In this match, Jeonbuk quickly equalized after conceding but could not take the lead. Poyet said, "This is also part of football. The opponent responded well, and that is something we cannot control. I don't think it's a major issue. In the Gimcheon match, we came back to win after conceding. In the last 20 minutes of the game, I thought we could win by launching an offensive. Overall, it was intense and difficult."
Poyet stated, "I tend to persuade the players sufficiently on the mental aspect. I told them they are physically and technically prepared and can perform well. In my opinion, both halves were decent. However, I would like to play a match where we can score first and control the tempo."
He added, "In the official matches, we've recorded 3 wins and 1 draw, with no losses. Nevertheless, the players are frustrated with the draw. I think this is a significant change compared to last season."
In this match, Compaño played with a bandage due to a bleeding injury and went to the hospital immediately after the match. Jeon Jin-woo was also substituted due to injury. Poyet explained, "It was an intense game. There were strong challenges. Compaño had a cut under his eyebrow and required treatment during the match. Jeon Jin-woo's injury looks serious. It doesn't look good."
