The possibility of a transfer for Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min (33) is gradually increasing. Saudi Arabian Pro League teams and Manchester United are actively considering acquiring Son, and Tottenham is also in a dilemma regarding his future in the summer transfer market.
The British media outlet 'Spurs Web' reported that on the 21st (Korea time), "Son Heung-min is likely to receive offers from two clubs this summer. Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad and Al Hilal are prepared to offer £41.3 million (approximately 70 billion won) to acquire him."
British 'Team Talk' also reported, "Manchester United could acquire Son Heung-min in the summer transfer market." United is pursuing efficient acquisitions amid financial constraints and is targeting veteran players whose contracts are nearing expiration.
In particular, Son Heung-min noted in a past interview that he supported Manchester United while watching the legendary player Park Ji-sung. The British 'Sports Bible' stated, "The likelihood of Son Heung-min transferring to Manchester United is increasing, and the club is also positively evaluating the acquisition internally."
Tottenham signed a one-year extension with Son Heung-min last January, maintaining his contract until June 2026. However, internally, the club seems to be seeking opportunities to secure suitable transfer fees rather than considering Son as a long-term key resource.
'Tottenham Hotspur News' analyzed, "Tottenham suddenly withdrew from negotiations for a long-term re-signing with Son Heung-min. Ultimately, they activated the one-year extension option, but this was a strategic decision to maintain his transfer value."
Furthermore, British TBR Football reported, "Internally at Tottenham, there are doubts about whether Son Heung-min can maintain his performance at an elite level. If Saudi Arabian clubs offer a high transfer fee, Tottenham is highly likely to consider his transfer."
Manchester United plans to offload some attackers, including Marcus Rashford and Antony, this summer and is currently seeking new attacking resources. Son Heung-min fits the conditions desired by United for an experienced attacker at a relatively low transfer fee.
'Team Talk' reported, "Since joining Tottenham in 2015, Son Heung-min has scored 126 goals in the Premier League, ranking in the top 20 all-time scorers. Manchester United believes he is a player who can follow in Park Ji-sung's footsteps and is considering him as a new attacking option."
A variable is Son Heung-min's age. 'Sporting News' analyzed, "Manchester United has historically acquired strikers who were in the latter stages of their careers, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo, but there have been instances where they did not yield the expected results. Son Heung-min may receive a similar evaluation."
Son Heung-min's future has yet to be determined, but discussions surrounding his future are expected to intensify as the summer transfer market approaches.
TBR Football reported, "Tottenham activated the contract extension option to maintain Son Heung-min's value, but this may simply be a strategy to secure a transfer fee. Son's side is currently not in negotiations for an additional contract with Tottenham, and the likelihood of a transfer this summer is high."
With Saudi Arabia and Manchester United competing for Son Heung-min's acquisition, attention is focused on what decision Tottenham will make regarding his future.
