Minister of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won said on the 14th, "At tomorrow's confirmation hearing, I will explain everything to the public in detail, and today I will do my best to prepare for the hearing."
Kim said this without giving specific answers about several allegations related to him when he met reporters on his way to work at the confirmation hearing preparation team office in Jongno District, Seoul, that day.
Kim first said, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who offered condolences for the funeral of my close family member."
He added, "I want all the experience I have accumulated over 30 years as a legal professional—on the bench, in defense, and on bodies such as the prosecution's human rights committee—to be put to good use in establishing a new criminal justice system," and said, "I will do my best for the people."
Earlier, Basic Income Party lawmaker Yong Hye-in voluntarily resigned the previous day from the post of Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee. People Power Party chief spokesperson Park Sung-hoon said, "Yong's resignation, pushed by public sentiment in Seongnam, was an entirely natural and just outcome," adding, "If the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party throw 'Yong Hye-in's resignation' to public opinion as a sacrifice and push ahead with the 'appointment of Kim Seung-won,' it is nothing but a deceptive farce of a government that thinks the people are fools and an act of arrogance that disregards the people."
