It is estimated that up to about 1,200 test-takers were unable to finish submitting their applications due to a malfunction in the early admissions application system. The education authorities will accept relief applications from the 14th for three days.
According to the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education on the 13th, among roughly 2.61 million early admissions application cases this time, the number of test-takers who could not complete submission due to a system failure is estimated at up to about 1,200.
Relief applications can be filed from 9 a.m. on the 14th to 6 p.m. on the 16th through a dedicated board on the Uway Apply application agency's website.
The Ministry of Education and KCUE will review the applications and proceed with relief procedures for test-takers who were unable to finish submission due to an actual system failure.
The malfunction occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on the 11th in the Uway Apply application system. Some test-takers were unable to complete application submission or payment properly right before the deadline.
As confusion grew, KCUE extended the original 6 p.m. deadline for application submissions by one hour to 7 p.m., but there were still test-takers who could not finish submitting.
The Ministry of Education plans to investigate the overall application system, including the cause of the malfunction and how it was operated.
It also said that if any illegal or inappropriate matters are found during the malfunction, it will pursue legal accountability, including referring the case for investigation.
